Florida Instructional League, Intrasquad Game – 10/1/2014
We’re at the tail end of the rainy season in Florida. Tuesday’s game was played at an earlier time and over before I got to the stadium. Today’s intrasquad game started at 1:00pm. Phils1 played Phils2. The game was called after 6 innings. Phils 2 made up an early 3-0 deficit to win 10-3. The pitching was a little sketchy, but some of the guys threw well. Phillies Instructional League Game #3; 9/23/2014
Monday’s game at the Blue Jays’ Englebert Complex was moved up 10:00am to beat the weather. Unfortunately, I was unaware of the change and missed the game. Tuesday’s game against the Yankees at Bright House Field was played at the scheduled time. It’s not about the result, but the Phillies did win 5-1.

The Florida Instructional League scheduled an intrasquad game for Friday at 1:45pm. In an effort to get the game in ahead of the rainy weather, they moved the game up to 10:00am, but still had to call it by 10:30am.
The rain was so heavy that Bright House Field was unplayable for Saturday’s 10:00am game against the Yankees, and was moved to Robin Roberts Field at the Carpenter Complex.
I arrived in the bottom of the first inning after getting a flat tire on Route 19. Those of you who have been down here know that is not the best place to get a flat. GCL, FSL, and Biddle; August 13, 2014
I attended my first GCL game in several weeks today. Denton Keys pitched a solid 5 innings against the GCL Pirates. He scattered 5 hits, 2 walks, and a hit batter allowing 2 runs, only one of them earned. The defense was a little shaky all day. The 3 errors charged were a little generous. A couple more could have been charged.
Austin Davis and undrafted free agent Kyle Bogese combined to pitch the final 4 innings. Davis allowed 3 hits in 2.1 innings but was aided by a pick off and a caught stealing. Bogese got the win with 1.2 innings of no-hit ball. Each reliever recorded 3 strikes out. The Phillies won 3-2. Continue reading GCL, FSL, and Biddle; August 13, 2014

Brandon Short was in the line up today for the Williamsport squad . He has begun a rehab assignment that will hopefully end in his being activated on the Threshers’ roster. He led off and started in centerfield. Unfortunately, this pushed Cord Sandberg to the GCL squad and the DH position. Still, Trey Williams, Jan Hernandez, Jake Sweaney, Jose Pujols, and Herlis Rodriguez would be in the Williamsport line up and Ricardo Pinto would get the start. Continue reading XST; May 29, 2014

Mitch Gueller pitched 5 tough innings this afternoon. He started off with a solid 1st inning, striking out the first batter and throwing 9 consecutive strikes in 12 pitches. Starting in the 2nd inning, he had difficulty maintaining consistent control of his pitches. He threw 51 strikes among his 90 pitches. He allowed 11 base runners over the next four innings. Some of the pitches that he left up were hit hard by the Yankees. He gave up 4 doubles among the 6 hits he allowed. He did have some nice movement on his slider or chang up. Most of the swing-and-miss he induced seemed to be on that pitch. His line was 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 1 K. Continue reading XST; May 12, 2014
