Florida Instructional League Game #10; 10/3/2014

The Phillies’ game at the Englebert Complex was moved to the Blue Jays’ Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. The change in venue must have been unsettling as the Phillies lost 5-0 to the Blue Jays on Friday. The line up/box score – Continue reading Florida Instructional League Game #10; 10/3/2014

Baseball, Prospects, and an Icon; 9/20/2014

The Florida Instructional League scheduled an intrasquad game for Friday at 1:45pm. In an effort to get the game in ahead of the rainy weather, they moved the game up to 10:00am, but still had to call it by 10:30am.

The rain was so heavy that Bright House Field was unplayable for Saturday’s 10:00am game against the Yankees, and was moved to Robin Roberts Field at the Carpenter Complex.

I arrived in the bottom of the first inning after getting a flat tire on Route 19. Those of you who have been down here know that is not the best place to get a flat. So, by the time I got to the correct field, I just tracked highlights and didn’t chart pitches or keep a proper score card. Continue reading Baseball, Prospects, and an Icon; 9/20/2014

Phillies Pull Within One Game of Yankees1; August 23, 2014

The Phillies came from behind to beat the Blue Jays 2-1.  They pushed across a run in the eighth inning to gain a tie, and scored the walk off win with another run in the ninth inning.  The game featured excellent pitching by both teams.

Lewis Alezones started for the Phillies and logged six innings of 2-hit ball.  Austin Davis chipped in two inning of 1-hit ball.  Jared Fisher threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning and picked up the win. Continue reading Phillies Pull Within One Game of Yankees1; August 23, 2014

First Place Phillies Drop Game with Braves; August 20, 2014

The GCL Phillies entered their game with the GCL Braves tied with the Yankees for first place in the GCL Northwest Division.  They dropped a 4-0 decision to fall a game back with a 31-21 record and 7 games remaining in the season.

Denton Keys scattered 8 hits and a walk through 6 innings.  One of the two runs he allowed was unearned, set up by an errant pick off attempt in the third inning.  He allowed an earned run in the fourth on a bunt single, hit-and-run single, and a sacrifice fly.  Although he allowed 9 base runners, Keys benefited from double plays in the first and second innings, and a caught stealing in the fourth inning.  Continue reading First Place Phillies Drop Game with Braves; August 20, 2014

GCL, FSL, and Biddle; August 13, 2014

I attended my first GCL game in several weeks today.  Denton Keys pitched a solid 5 innings against the GCL Pirates.  He scattered 5 hits, 2 walks, and a hit batter allowing 2 runs, only one of them earned.  The defense was a little shaky all day.  The 3 errors charged were a little generous.  A couple more could have been charged.

Austin Davis and undrafted free agent Kyle Bogese combined to pitch the final 4 innings.  Davis allowed 3 hits in 2.1 innings but was aided by a pick off and a caught stealing.  Bogese got the win with 1.2 innings of no-hit ball.  Each reliever recorded 3 strikes out.  The Phillies won 3-2.
