The Phillies won their final three games, one against the Yankees1 team and two against the Pirates, but fell short on their goal of winning the division. Today, Franklyn Kilome gave up a home run on the second pitch of the game then shut down the Pirates for five innings. Tanner Kiest, Gregorio Santos, and Seranthony Dominguez each pitched a scoreless inning of relief before undrafted free agent Kyle Bogese added some drama in the ninth. GCL Phillies Drop 2 Games Back With 3 to Play; August 25, 2014
The Phillies lost a “must” game to the Yankees, 7-2. Now, even if they win out, they need help from the Blue Jays to win or force a tie for the division.
Elniery Garcia started and battled with less than his best stuff. The Yankee batters were able to sit on his fast ball and make solid contact in a lot of their at bats. Even so, he kept the Phillies in the game and certianly deserved better defense than that played behind him today. My line for Garcia was 4.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K. Phillies Pull Within One Game of Yankees1; August 23, 2014
The Phillies came from behind to beat the Blue Jays 2-1. They pushed across a run in the eighth inning to gain a tie, and scored the walk off win with another run in the ninth inning. The game featured excellent pitching by both teams.
