Career Synopsis: Signed by Boston as an amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic soon after his 21st birthday. With Boston, Ogando had spent full seasons at each of the first 4 levels – DSL, A-, A, and A+. I first saw him in 2013 Instructs where his fastball was hitting 96 pretty regularly with no movement but on a downward plane. His pitching stats followed a downward trend each year. In 2014, he started at Reading and his ERA bottomed out above 6.00, but his K/9 was a career high 9.2/9 IP. Through his career, Ogando had struggled with his command hadn’t walked less than 4.0 BB/9 IP. In 2014 he was at 4.5 BB/9 IP. He was sent to the AFL and cut his walks down to 2.5/9 IP while maintaining his high K/9. He continued his low walk trend in winter ball but was shut down after 5 appearances. In 2015, Ogando pitched well at both Reading and Lehigh Valley although his walks crept up again. He was called up to the Phillies on 9/9/2015.
