Mitch Gueller

Name: Mitch Gueller
Position: RHP
Bats: RH
Throws: RH
DOB: November 10, 1993
Height: 6′ 3″
Weight: 210
Acquired: Drafted in the supplemental 1st round (#54 overall) of the 2012 draft, $940,000 signing bonus

Pre Draft Report:  Gueller was considered the top athlete in the Northwest, he was scouted as both a hitter and pitcher but was liked slightly more as a pitcher.  His fastball is above average sitting 91-93 touching 94.  His secondary pitches both flash above average but they are still works in progress.

Career Synopsis:  Gueller made his debut in the GCL and was not overly impressive posting a 5.27ERA, 12BB, 19K, over 27.1IP.  There were rumors that he was working primarily on fastball command and building arm strength.

Scouting Report: Below is an assessment of Guellers’s raw tools, rated on the traditional 20-80 scouting scale. The grades are my estimation based on what I’ve read and those I’ve talked to. The second number is a future projection, the first number is the current assessment

Arm Strength: 60
Fastball: 60
Control: 40/60
Command: 40/60
Mechanics: 60
Durability: 40/60
Secondary Pitches: 50/60

Summary: Like his fellow 2012 draftee Shane Watson, Gueller has the tools to be a #2 starter.  He is an athletic pitcher with plenty of room to mature and develop.

Upside:  Despite his unimpressive debut Gueller still has #2 upside.  He is very raw coming from poor competition in the Pacific Northwest.  He will likely go to Lakewood to start 2013 where there will be more information learned about his upside and projection.
