Pre Draft Report:  Serritella broke his wrist during his junior year (2011) causing him to red shirt the entire year.  Before that he was on pace to be the top college hitting prospect in Illinois.  The Royals still selected him in the 31st round but he didn’t sign.

In the summer of 2011, he played in the Prospect League, earning MVP honors and the home run title.  During the spring of 2012 Serritella lead the Missouri Valley Conference in hitting and was second in home runs.  He has big power for a college hitter but there some concern that he is a bad ball hitter and will struggle when he faces good pitching.  He isn’t a good runner and will need to improve defensively at first.

Career Synopsis:  Serritella signed and went immediately to Short-Season Williamsport in the NYPL.  He was one of the top hitters in the league showcasing an ability to make good contact and hit for power.  Over 75 games Serritella hit /297/.349/.437 with 6 HRs.

Scouting Report: Below is an assessment of Serritella’s raw tools, rated on the traditional 20-80 scouting scale. The grades are my estimation based on what I’ve read and those I’ve talked to. The second number is a future projection, the first number is the current assessment

Summary:  Serritella is a typical first base only slugger.  He has shown the ability to hit for good contact against lower level pitchers, his swing generates good power as well.  Serritella is a below average defensive first baseman right now, but he has the tools to be at least average in the field.  Serritella is as slow as they come but as a first baseman that isn’t a detriment right now.

Upside:  Serritella has the tools to profile as a regular at first base if everything breaks right.  However, Serritella will have to prove it at every level in order to have a chance at the majors.  He is an advanced hitter and will be moved quickly through the system to make up for lost time.
