2016 Spring Training, March 20th

While the Phillies were beating the Astros in Bright House Field, several pitchers who missed facing live hitters due to Saturday’s cancellation got their work pitching for Groups 3 and 4 against the Pirates.  This was to the chagrin of most observers who would rather that the young pitchers in the organization not lose 6-7 innings to pitchers who are likely to be released or end up in Lehigh Valley.

2016 Spring Training, March 19th

Rainy day here in Florida.  The Phillies 1:00PM start against the Blue Jays in Dunedin was cancelled.  Today out will be their last day off down here barring another rain out.  Over at the Carpenter Complex, the minor league games were moved up to 10:00AM to beat the weather.  Nice try.  A lightning strike in the distance over Bright House Field signaled the end of baseball before 11:00AM.   Continue reading 2016 Spring Training, March 19th

2016 Spring Training, March 11th

Thursday, the Phillies traveled to central Florida and whipped the Atlanta Braves 9-2, pushing their spring record to 8-3-2. Former Phillies Michael Bourn and Kyle Kendrick started for Atlanta.  Bourn went 1-3.  He fared better than Kendrick who faced 16 batters in 1.2 innings and allowed 7 ER on 9 hits and 2 walks.  The Phillies put up double digit hits again (16).  Ryan Howard returned from an illness and recorded his first spring base hit. Roman Quinn posted his third triple in 18 at bats.  Meanwhile, back at the Complex in Clearwater, the Phillies held two more intrasquad games at minor league camp. Phillies Close GCL Season With 3 Wins; August 28, 2014

The Phillies won their final three games, one against the Yankees1 team and two against the Pirates, but fell short on their goal of winning the division.  Today, Franklyn Kilome gave up a home run on the second pitch of the game then shut down the Pirates for five innings.  Tanner Kiest, Gregorio Santos, and Seranthony Dominguez each pitched a scoreless inning of relief before undrafted free agent Kyle Bogese added some drama in the ninth.  Jared Fisher came on to nail down his third save of the season in the 5-2 victory.
