Thursday, the Phillies traveled to central Florida and whipped the Atlanta Braves 9-2, pushing their spring record to 8-3-2. Former Phillies Michael Bourn and Kyle Kendrick started for Atlanta. Bourn went 1-3. He fared better than Kendrick who faced 16 batters in 1.2 innings and allowed 7 ER on 9 hits and 2 walks. The Phillies put up double digit hits again (16). Ryan Howard returned from an illness and recorded his first spring base hit. Roman Quinn posted his third triple in 18 at bats. Florida Instructional League – Game #12; 10/15/2015
Today’s games signaled the end of Instructs. It was quite a contrast from the 22-hit slug fest on Monday. Six Phillies’ pitchers shutout the Yankees on three hits and two walks. They recorded 16 strike outs. The Yankees’ pitchers were almost as effective holding the Phillies to one run on three hits and three walks. They also hit two batters.
The Phillies’ Nick Pivetta pitched a rehab inning. Bradenton’s Cord Sandberg made an appearance and took five at bats as a DH.

Florida Instructional League – Game #7; 10/7/2015
Wednesday the Phillies played the Blue Jays at Bright House Field. The comfortable surroundings made up a little for yet another game with no offense. The pattern of ineffectiveness is beginning to be a little concerning. The Phillies managed five hits, only one of which was hit hard – Greg Pickett’s line drive single in the ninth inning. The only other hard hit ball was a line drive off the bat of Juan Luis in the first inning that was speared by the second baseman.

Florida Instructional League – Game #2, 9/29/2015
Tuesday’s game against the Yankees provided a mixture of good, indifferent, and poor pitching with a very little bit of offense. Starter Matt Imhof and reliever Felix Paulino both had poor outings.
