2016 Spring Training, March 16th

The Phillies were scheduled off today as they prepare for their big St. Patrick’s Day game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Two Class A groups faced the Pirates Class A teams at the Carpenter Complex.  I don’t have much velocity to report or game action for that matter.  But I have a lot of video. Continue reading 2016 Spring Training, March 16th

2016 Spring Training, March 11th

Thursday, the Phillies traveled to central Florida and whipped the Atlanta Braves 9-2, pushing their spring record to 8-3-2. Former Phillies Michael Bourn and Kyle Kendrick started for Atlanta.  Bourn went 1-3.  He fared better than Kendrick who faced 16 batters in 1.2 innings and allowed 7 ER on 9 hits and 2 walks.  The Phillies put up double digit hits again (16).  Ryan Howard returned from an illness and recorded his first spring base hit. Roman Quinn posted his third triple in 18 at bats.  Meanwhile, back at the Complex in Clearwater, the Phillies held two more intrasquad games at minor league camp. Florida Instructional League – Game #10; 10/12/2015 – “Cozens, Baby!”

Dylan Cozens went yard.  Off a left-handed pitcher.  Cleared the back fence at Bright House Field.  Landed in Thome Pond.  Scared the ‘gator.

The Phillies played the Blue Jays today, and combined for 22 hits.  Finally some offense to write about.  Each team banged out 11 hits.  The Phillies had five of the seven extra base hits on the day.  In spite of the 11 hits, most of the Phillies’ pitchers pitched fairly well

Florida Instructional League – Game #8; 10/8/2015

The Phillies played the Yankees at Bright House Field on Thursday.  With Franklyn Kilome and Tyler Gilbert leading the way and a little offense for a change, today’s game was much easier to watch.  There were still some ineffective at bats, but a few hard hit balls lessened that concern a little.

Florida Instructional League – Game #4; 10/3/2015

Since Tuesday’s game, the Phillies have traveled to Tampa and had two camp days.  More camp days is a direct result of the Pirates decision not to schedule very many games this year.  I don’t believe they are travelling out of Bradenton at all this fall.

This morning at ten o’clock, the Phillies took the field against the Blue Jays.  Tyler Gilbert got the start.  He was followed by Edgar Garcia, Alexis Rivero, and Robert Tasin.  The top of the Phillies order was comprised of Roman Quinn, J.P. Crawford, and Domonic Brown. Cornelius Randolph batted fifth and Jhailyn Ortiz was the DH and batted seventh.  Sixteen year old Rafael Marchan also made a cameo at catcher but played the field for only half of an inning.

The Phillies received some good pitching and outscored the Jays 6-4.  Details below the fold.

Florida Instructional League – Game #1; 9/28/2015

The Phillies played their first Florida Instructional League (FIL) game Monday against the Blue Jays in Dunedin.  Because of a 70% chance of rain, I went over early and was able to watch Franklyn Kilome start the game at noon instead of the 1:00PM scheduled start time.
