The Phillies won their final three games, one against the Yankees1 team and two against the Pirates, but fell short on their goal of winning the division. Today, Franklyn Kilome gave up a home run on the second pitch of the game then shut down the Pirates for five innings. Tanner Kiest, Gregorio Santos, and Seranthony Dominguez each pitched a scoreless inning of relief before undrafted free agent Kyle Bogese added some drama in the ninth. Jared Fisher came on to nail down his third save of the season in the 5-2 victory. Continue reading Phillies Close GCL Season With 3 Wins; August 28, 2014
The Phillies lost a “must” game to the Yankees, 7-2. Now, even if they win out, they need help from the Blue Jays to win or force a tie for the division.
Elniery Garcia started and battled with less than his best stuff. The Yankee batters were able to sit on his fast ball and make solid contact in a lot of their at bats. Today’s game against the Blue Jays started at 10:00AM. It was scheduled for 7 innings. By mutual agreement during the game, the teams extended the contest to 8 innings. In three different innings, the Blue Jays coaching staff asked to pitch to extra batters to make sure their pitchers got their work in. This is evidence that a lot of the young Phillies batters swing early and often. The Jays starter needed to face two extra batters in the 4th inning and still fell short of his 50-pitch limit.
