Tyler Viza scattered seven singles as the Clearwater Threshers defeated the Brevard County Manatees 6-1 Saturday night. The Threshers completed a three-game sweep of the Daytona Tortugas behind six shutout innings from Ranfi Casimro. The right hander was lifted after a 24-pitch sixth inning. Alexis Rivero and Victor Arano combined to complete the shutout over the last three innings. The Threshers pushed across an unearned run on Kyle Martin’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, just in time to make Casimiro the pitcher of record. Tyler Viza made his Clearwater Threshers’ debut a memorable one with a 4-3 victory over the 2015 Florida State League Champion Charlotte Stone Crabs. Viza (pronounced Veye-zah) threw 74 pitches in his 5.2 inning outing. He was lifted in the sixth inning after a lead off single advanced to third on back-to-back ground outs. Okay, it wasn’t a pennant. But it was the Florida State League North Division’s First Half clinching game. On June 14th, the Daytona Tortugas beat beat Tampa Yankees to raise their record to 37-26. That same day the Clearwater Threshers beat the Brevard County Manatees to raise their record to 32-31 and remain 5 games back with 7 to play.
While Daytona was dropping a four game series on the road against the Fort Myers Miracle, the Threshers split their series with the St. Lucie Mets. They crept back within 3 games of the Tortugas with a pivotal half-ending, three game series between the teams this week. A series sweep by Clearwater would tie the teams for the division lead. Clearwater pounded their way to an 8-2 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays Saturday night. The Threshers collected 14 hits, 5 for extra bases, in support of Brandon Leibrandt’s one-hit, nine strike out effort over six innings.

Clearwater lost 8-7 to the Tampa Yankees. The Threshers couldn’t hold an early lead, but came back to tie before falling behind again. Late runs conceded to the Yankees came back to haunt as the Threshers ninth inning rally fell short.

The Threshers beat the Lakeland Flying Tigers in a game that amounted to a pitching duel between their respective pitching staffs. They won the game 4-3 on a single by Dylan Cozens in the seventeenth inning.
Miguel Nunez Faced the Brevard County Manatees Sunday afternoon and pitched one heck of a game. He threw a season high 8 innings, and 67% strikes before leaving with a 2-1 lead. The bullpen failed to hold on and a ninth inning rally fell short as the Threshers dropped a heart breaker 5-4.
