Lehigh Valley Weekly Report 29 June 2011

A bumpy week for Lehigh Valley as they have been decimated by call ups to Philadelphia as well as injury to their rotation.  The ‘Pigs went 3-4 on the week and now stand at 46-33, still in first place in the Northern Division of the International League, 3.5 games ahead of second place Scranton.

‘Pigs Leaders–Hitting: Jeff Larish is 6th in homers (13); Brandon Moss is 10th in homers (12) and 10th in RBI’s (45); Delwyn Young is 8th in strikeouts (73); Rich Thompson is 2nd in SB’s (26) and 4th in OBP (.391) Continue reading Lehigh Valley Weekly Report 29 June 2011

Madson to DL; Carpenter Recalled

Ryan Madson was placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to June 19 with the hand injury.  He’s eligible to return on July 4.  Andrew Carpenter was recalled.  After being DFA’ed during spring training, Carpenter has been reborn as a middle reliever, pitching to 1.58 ERA in LHV this year, including a 0.00 in eight June appearances.  A 51 K / 9 BB ratio over 45.2 IP is obviously helping.  The way things are going, look for him to settle into the closer’s role shortly.

Around the System–Starting Pitching, Top Half

A look at the Starting Pitching for the top half of the organization.  Look for the report on the lower half (Lakewood, Williamsport, and GCL at the end of the week)

Lehigh Valley

Brian Bass, 29, 4-5 with a 4.54 ERA in 15 starts; 85.1 IP 97H 33BB 49K; 9 HR allowed, 1.52 WHIP, 2.79 GO/AO; .289 opp. avg., .292 vs. LH, .286 vs. RH; .263 with RISP; Has gone at least 6 innings in each of his last nine starts.  The ‘Pigs rotation has been decimated by injury and call ups and Bass has been the one constant.  Constant in the sense that he has gone out there every five days.  Some good, some bad, and some ugly. Clearwater Threshers Report (6/13-6/26)

Recap:  The past two week period overlapped the FSL All-Star break.  During the stretch, the Threshers went 2-8, ultimately ending the first half at 39-30, 7 ½ games behind Daytona in the FSL North.  They are 1-3 in the early portion of the second half.  A few roster moves over the past fourteen days, most notably Leandro Castro and Tyson Gillies landing on the DL (Castro had been running with a noticeable limp just prior to being DL’ed, Gillies has a foot problem) and the addition of Marek Minarik and Matt Way to the official roster (even though both are DL’ed).
