Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30 #12

The Reader Top 30 has likely seen the last majority winner.  It’s also quite possible that we have few plurality winners that exceed 30%.  Rhys Hoskins’ selection as the organizations’ #11 prospect may be indicative of how contentious the remaining votes will be.  Hoskins won comfortably with 122 of 440 total votes cast.  He almost doubled the votes cast for 2nd place finisher Ricardo Pinto (66 votes), but Hoskins only garnered 27.7% of the vote. Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30 #11

Zach Eflin received 177 of 392 votes (45%) and was selected as the #10 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.   Rhys Hoskins finished a distant second with 55 votes.

Eflin was drafted out of high school in 2012 by the San Diego Padres in the first round, the 33rd overall pick.  The 6’4, 200 pound right-hander pitched 3 years in the Padres organization.  He threw only 7 innings the summer he was drafted. Continue reading Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30 #11

Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30 #10

Andrew Knapp received 355 of 527 votes (67%) and was selected as the #9 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.   Zach Eflin finished second with 66 votes.  He is the early favorite to complete the top ten.

Andrew Knapp was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 41st round of the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft.  He opted to attend Cal-Berkeley and three years later the Phillies made him their second round selection in 2013.  The junior catcher signed and began his pro career in Williamsport. Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30 #9

Franklyn Kilome garnered 56% of the vote as he was selected the #8 prospect in the organization.  He got 242 of 432 votes cast (56%).  Andrew Knapp finished second with 123 votes (28%).  Big drop off to 25 votes for third place Zach Eflin after that.   Continue reading Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30 #9

Jorge Alfaro  was selected the organization’s #7 prospect.  Of 521 votes cast, Alfaro received 196 (38%).  Franklyn Kilome trailed closely all day and tallied 171 (33%).  Andrew Knapp finished third with 99 (19%).  No one else received more than 16 votes. Roman Quinn was selected the organization’s #6 prospect by a comfortable margin.  Of 477 votes cast, Quinn received 164 (34%) and and easily outdistanced Jorge Alfaro who received 119 votes (25%).  Franklyn Kilome made a late run at second but eventually fell short with 101 votes (21%). Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30 #5

The race for the #4 prospect in the Phillies’ organization was close.  It ended with Mark Appel edging Cornelius Randolph by 12 votes.  A record 593 votes were cast.  Appel received 184 votes (31%) followed closely by Randolph who received 172 (29%).  The real surprise was that the top two vote recipients accounted for only 60% of the votes cast.
