2016 Spring Training, Full Squad Reports for First Practice

Around 10 o’clock this morning, over ninety Philadelphia Phillies’ coaches, instructors, and players exited the clubhouse for the start of spring training.  There were about 200-300 fans on hand to witness the beginning of the Klentak era.

Open Discussion: Week of February 22nd

Here’s the open discussion thread for Phillies’ talk and other topics.

Things are progressing much the same as previous years.  Calisthenics, stretching, long toss then PFPs for the pitchers and BP for the early reporting position players.  However there are some minor changes.  Seems like less BP before some of the infielders slip away for infield drills.  Outfield drills seem to run longer.  The PFPs look the same, but the pitchers are throwing to live batters much sooner than they were last year. Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30

Aaron Brown was selected the Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Poll’s 30th ranked prospect. In a dead heat Brown and Lucas Williams each received 30% of the 273 votes cast.  Brown edged Williams by one vote, 82-81.  There was a big drop-off after that to Edubray Ramos with 33 votes (12%).  No one else received more than 10 votes. 2016 Phillies Minor League Spring Training Schedule

The Phillies have released their 2016 Minor League Spring Training Schedule.  The schedule includes their games as well as the games of the other Tampa Bay Area teams – Yankees (Tampa), Blue Jays (Dunedin), and Pirates (Bradenton). 2016 MLB Draft and International Bonus Pools Announced

The Phillies were assigned a 2016 MLB Draft Pool of just over $13.4M.  The amount is slightly behind the largest allotment assigned to the Reds ($13.9M).  Cincinnati will receive the top amount because they hold the first pick in the Competitive Balance Lottery.

The Phillies did receive the top International Bonus Pool allotment, a little over $5.6M.

Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30 #30

Victor Arano was selected the Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Poll’s 29th ranked prospect. He received  67 of 330 votes (20%).  He bested Lucas Williams by 7 votes.  This should set up a heated race between Williams (60 votes) and Aaron Brown (58 votes) for the final spot in our Top 30.
