After making the trip to Australia with the Dodgers, Seth Rosin was cut by the Dodgers. He was then claimed off waivers by the Rangers. All of the same roster restrictions will apply to Rosin in Texas as they did in Los Angeles. If Texas cuts him, he will have to pass through waivers again, any claiming team would take him on with the Rule 5 requirements in place. If he passes through waivers the Phillies would then have the opportunity to pay $25,000 to take Rosin back into the system.

Positional Overview: True second base prospects are a rare breed, because they must be able to play a physically demanding position and hit enough to be major league regulars. Unless they can fake shortstop their floors are off of major league rosters, and so it means they are undervalued until they can show that major league ceiling. The Phillies have been blessed with one of the best second basemen of the past 10 years in Chase Utley. Utley is now into the decline phase of his career and the search for a suitable replacement is on the horizon. The system really only has two guys in that discussion; Cesar Hernandez is near major league ready, but there are plenty of questions about whether the bat can play as a major league regular, and further away is Andrew Pullin who is still getting used to playing the position.
Final Workout Groups
There may be some more movement, but for the most part the final workout groups say a lot about where the final assignments will be.
So first here is the list, once again courtesy of Baseball Betsy.
General Discussion – Week of 3-24-2014 – MRSAdition
I imagine the main thought when the players were told Freddy Galvis had MRSA was “Umm…MRSA? Really? Nasty.”
No one said it would be profound. It’s still Spring Training for me, too, you know. If I’m phoning it in like this in Mid-May, you guys let me know.
Discuss.
Minor League Roster Cuts
Per Phillies Insider the Phillies have released IF Jim Negrych, 1B Logan Pierce (2013 15th Rd), LHP Kyler Burke, RHP Zach Cooper (2012 15th Rd), C Francisco Herrera, C Josh Ludy (8th Rd 2012), and C Justin Dalles. None of the names are any big surprises and the move clears up the catching situation a bit more and almost assures Wilmer Oberto a 1B/DH job in Lakewood.

MiLB Spring Training 2014; March 22nd, Adams vs. the Blue Jays
Groups 1 and 2 this morning. Normally, I would have watched Group 2, but Mike Adams was going to pitch the first inning in the Group 1 game. Since this would be against slightly more advanced hitters than those he faced against Group 2 in an intra-squad game earlier in the week, I chose to watch Group 1. Adams was followed by Pettibone for 3 innings.
I reported earlier this week that Adams threw well against Group 2, but after retiring the first 3 batters, he gave up singles to Joseph and Harold Martinez before the outing was called by the coaches. Continue reading MiLB Spring Training 2014; March 22nd, Adams vs. the Blue Jays
MiLB Spring Training 2014; March 21st, vs. the Blue Jays
Groups 3 and 4 were back on their normal fields, Ashburn and Schmidt playing the Blue Jays farm teams. Group 5 was playing an independent team from Long Island, the Storm. I was able to get a good spot at the backstop on Ashburn, so I Group 3 and Miguel Nunez. Continue reading MiLB Spring Training 2014; March 21st, vs. the Blue Jays
