Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30 #12; Run Off

Well, I don’t if this has ever happened before.  The Reader Top 30 experienced 3 close races in the poll for the #12 prospect in the organization.  Virtual ties for third and fifth, and a true dead lock for the top position between Ricardo Pinto and Scott Kingery.  So, in the absence of hanging chad and absentee ballots, we will do what Florida failed to do in 2000, head-to-head run off. The Reader Top 30 has likely seen the last majority winner.  It’s also quite possible that we have few plurality winners that exceed 30%.  Rhys Hoskins’ selection as the organizations’ #11 prospect may be indicative of how contentious the remaining votes will be.  Hoskins won comfortably with 122 of 440 total votes cast.  He almost doubled the votes cast for 2nd place finisher Ricardo Pinto (66 votes), but Hoskins only garnered 27.7% of the vote. Zach Eflin received 177 of 392 votes (45%) and was selected as the #10 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.   Rhys Hoskins finished a distant second with 55 votes.

Eflin was drafted out of high school in 2012 by the San Diego Padres in the first round, the 33rd overall pick.  The 6’4, 200 pound right-hander pitched 3 years in the Padres organization.  He threw only 7 innings the summer he was drafted. Continue reading Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30 #11

Andrew Knapp received 355 of 527 votes (67%) and was selected as the #9 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.   Zach Eflin finished second with 66 votes.  He is the early favorite to complete the top ten.

Andrew Knapp was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 41st round of the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft.  He opted to attend Cal-Berkeley and three years later the Phillies made him their second round selection in 2013.  The junior catcher signed and began his pro career in Williamsport.
