Open Discussion: Week of October 1st
The Phillies closed out the season with an 11-0 pasting of the hated New York Mets. They posted a 4-2 record over the final week with series wins over the equally hated Washington National and the Mets. The Phillies finished with a 66-96 record and a .407 PCT. They posted a 71-91 record in 2016, but showed promise after the All Star break this year when the went 37-38 after the infusion of several of their young prospects – Nick Williams, Jorge Alfaro, Rhys Hoskins, and J.P. Crawford and some improved second-half pitching from guys like Victor Arano, Jake Thompson, Ben Lively, Adam Morgan, and Hoby Milner. Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of October 1st
Phillies “Promote” Mackanin
Phillies manager Pete Mackanin will not return as the manager in 2018. Earlier this year, he had signed an extension thru the ’18 season. Mackanin signed a new contract and will return as a special assistant to the GM. Here is Jim Salisbury’s report.
IMO, this is an interesting development. It may signal that the organization feels that they are closer to competing for a playoff spot than when they extended Mackanin. It will also be be interesting to see who the Phillies target as a replacement.
