Box Score Recap – 8/3/2016

The Phillies placed Aaron Nola on the DL.  Lehigh’s starter, Phil Klien was called up to start in his place and they had to scramble to find a starter.  They called up a relief pitcher from Reading.  They lost and are tied with Scranton for the division lead.

Reading treated their fans to a power surge, courtesy of Dylan Cozens, Rhys Hoskins, and Jake Fox.  They coasted to victory over Bowie.

Clearwater’s Brandon Leibrandt made his season debut after spending the season on the DL in a loss to Dunedin.

Lakewood dropped a doubleheader scoring 1 run in each game.  Jose Pujols had their RBI in each game (and no strike outs).

Box Score Recap – 8/2/2016

Lehigh Valley moved into sole possession of first place behind Ben Lively’s three-hit effort.

Reading’s Nick Pivetta was strong after a first inning home run.

Felix Paulino and Scott Harris didn’t allow an earned run in Williamsport’s loss.

Box Score Recap – 8/1/2016

Lehigh’s Adam Morgan picked up the win when he came on in relief in a game in which he had been scratched as the starter.  Ruf and Williams hit homers.  IronPigs tied for first in International League North Division.

Ricardo Pinto tossed a one-hitter for six innings, in a game the Phils eventually lost.

Zach Green and Josh Tobias had 3-hit nights in a losing effort for Clearwater.

Alberto Pinto and Damek Tomscha guided Lakewood into first place with a victory last night.

Ranger Suarez pitched Williamsport to another win in first game after no-hitter.

Box Score Recap – 7/31/2016

Sunday was another rainy day causing another suspension and a couple of short games. All five affiliates notched a win.

Lehigh’s Jake Thompson produced another sterling effort collecting his organization high 11th victory.

Reading completed one suspended game only to have Sunday’s game suspended.

Will Morris pitched a complete game.  Cord Sandberg had a 3-hit game.  And, Zach Morris hit his 12th home run in a rain-shortened game.

Lakewood made reliever Zach Morris a winner with a 10-run inning.

And, in Williamsport, JoJo Romero notched his first professional win, a complete game, in a rain-shortened game. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 7/31/2016

Box Score Recap – 7/30/2016

Lehigh picked up a win with a little D&D.  David Buchanan tossed seven, shutout innings and Darin Ruf drove in the game’s first run with a home run.

Reading was ahead by a run when the game was suspended in the bottom of the ninth, to be completed Sunday.

Clearwater broke a tie in the eighth inning on Cord Sandberg’s 2-out, RBI single.

Edgar Garcia pitched well in Lakewood’s loss.

Cole Irvin pitched equally well in Williamsport’s win.  L3 provided the offense – Mark Laird had four hits, Luke Williams had 2 hits, and Luke Maglich had 3 RBI. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 7/30/2016

Box Score Recap – 7/29/2016

There weren’t very many stand out performances last night as most of the affiliated teams lost.

Chace Numata drove in three runs for Clearwater including the go ahead run in the ninth.  He also homered earlier in the game.

Rhys Hoskins’ 30th home run and 94th RBI weren’t enough for Reading.

JoshTobias went 4-4 for Clearwater in a losing effort.

Lakewood’s Franklyn Kilome rebounded from a two-run first inning to shut down Augusta in a strong effort. Zach Coppola had four hits as the lead off hitter.

Bailey Falter pitched a solid five innings (one ER) in a Williamsport loss.

Box Score Recap – 7/27/2016

MLB has posted their Mid-Season Top 30.  Lots of movement and new faces.  I was most surprised, I think, by Jake Thompson’s drop from two to five.  Dylan Cozens moved up to seven.

Lehigh’s Ben Lively posted a quality start against Syracuse.

In Reading, the bats came alive.  Scott Kingery, Jorge Alfaro, Dylan Cozens, and Jake Fox led a 14-hit, 11-run attack behing Ricardo Pinto’s five shutout innings.

Luke Leftwich had a quality start for Clearwater in a losing effort.  Josh Tobias made his High A debut.

Daniel Brito reached base four times for the GCL Phillies scoring twice.

Down in the DSL, Sandro Rosario DSL1 and Rafael Carvajal (DSL2) pitched well as starters.

Box Score Recap – 7/26/2016

Reading’s loss prevented an organizational sweep among the affiliates.  Williamsport’s and the Rookie League’s pitchers held opponents to two runs and ten hits in five games.  They featured a no-hitter, 2 one-hitters, a two-hitter, and 4 shutouts.

In Lehigh, Cedric Hunter hit two home runs and Nick Williams had 3 RBI in game one. Adam Morgan struck out seven in five innings, and Darin Ruf hit his 13th home run in game two.

Reading got back-to-back, solo home runs from Jorge Alfaro and Dylan Cozens

Jinadido Tromp continued his recent assault on FSL pitching with his fourth home run in six games.

Jose Pujols hit his 19th home run for Lakewood.

Williamsport’s Ranger Suarez no-hit the Auburn Doubledays in game one.  Felix Paulino had his second consecutive good start in game two.

The GCL Phillies two-hit the Tigers behind Mauricio Llovera, Kyle Young, and Jordan Kurokawa.

Roimy Mendoza and Steiner Carmona combined to one-hit the Marlins for the DSL Phillies.

Denny Martinez and Victor Sobil combined to one-hit the Mets for the DSL Phillies2.

Box Score Recap – 7/25/2016

There was a lot of activity as several transactions were conducted.  Jesse Valentin and Scott Kingery were both promoted, no accompanying move yet for Clearwater.

Roman Quinn made his first rehab start in Clearwater.

With all the rain outs, there were only a few good performances to report.  Tyler Viza tossed a two-hitter over seven innings for Reading.  Rhys Hoskins hit his 29th home run.

Nick Fanti picked up his third win for the GCL Phillies, this one in relief..

17-year old catcher Rafael Marchan is probably deserving of some notice.  He had another productive game for the DSL Phillies2 and has kept his average well over .300 for about two weeks now after roughly 80 at bats. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 7/25/2016
