Box Score Recap – 8/12/2016

Not a good night for teams above the Rookie League.  Only the GCL Phillies were able to post a win yesterday.  Both Dominican teams were rained out.

It was Sanchez Day at the Complex, and he didn’t disappoint.

Elsewhere, Roman Quinn garnered three outfield assists, Mitch Walding hit his second “waldinger”, Chace Numata raised his average to .316 with a couple hits, Jiandido Tromp hit his seventh home run, Jose Pujols hit his 22nd home run, and the GCL Phillies ended preserved their win over the Yankees with a routine 8-2-5 double play. We got good starting pitching from Anthony Vasquez for Lehigh Valley, Brandon for Clearwater, and Luis Carrasco for the GCL Phillies.

Rain caused cancellations in Reading and one of the Dominican League games.  Rain also caused a suspension and ultimately a cancellation of game two in Williamsport.  Rain shortened the IronPigs’ game to five innings. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 8/11/2016

Lakewood and the two Dominican summer league teams were the only winners in the organization yesterday.  Clearwater and Williamsport were postponed due to wet grounds. I guess this shouldn’t be a surprise due to their close proximity (jk).

The GCL wasted a fine effort from starter Will Stewart.   Reliever Reiwal Gonzalez had a dominant outing in the DSL. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 8/10/2016

Box Score Recap – 8/9/2016

Last night was the Night of the Strike Out.

In Lehigh, starters Phil Klein and Chad Green (Scranton) struck out 10 opponents each (in 5 innings).  The pitching staffs combined to strike out 26 batters (13 for each team).

In Binghamton, fans also saw 26 strike outs, 14 by Phils’ pitchers and 12 by Mets’ pitchers. Tom Eshelman shone with 11 K in six innings.

In Clearwater, 13 Threshers struck out, but only 9 Yankees.

On the road, Lakewood’s Franklyn Kilome struck out 11 of the 17 batters that BlueClaws’ pitchers rang up at Delmarva.

But, in Williamsport, 6 errors and 3 passed balls over shadowed such trivial outcomes as strike outs.

Oh, Rhys Hoskins hit his 35th and collected his 104th RBI.

Oh, oh!  Carlos Alonso announced his retirement and has accepted a position as a coach in Williamsport. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 8/9/2016

The stateside starters provided sound pitching as Clearwater, Lakewood, and Williamsport won.  Clearwater moved back into first place in the FSL North.

The Threshers were powered by Aaron Brown’s 3-run HR, and Derek Campbell’s two HR, a solo and a grand slam.

The BlueClaws got support from Damek Tomscha in the ninth and Grenny Cumana in the tenth.

And, the Crosscutters needed only a little help behind Felix Paulino’s masterpiece.  They got a solo HR from Darick Hall. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 8/8/2016

Three of the organization’s four teams that played on Sunday won, and scored double digit runs while doing so.  They also received good starting pitching from Ben Lively (LHV), Nick Pivetta (REA), and Alberto Tirado (LAK); and good relief work from the Lehigh and Reading bullpens.  With all the run support, you would expect a lot of home runs from the usual suspects.  However, only Cedric Hunter, Andrew Pullin, and Gabriel Lino came through in that regard.
