Threshers Recap – 7/4//2019

There were a couple of live batting practices this morning.  Robinson Martinez threw in the second one against a group that included four of the this year’s draft picks – Bryson Stott, Jamari Baylor, Marcus Lee Sang, and Jadiel Sanchez.  Martinez was bringing it around 95 mph.  The guys didn’t enjoy much success against him. Threshers Recap – 7/3//2019

I watched our three newest players take batting practice today on Roberts Field.  I have some video. but I’ll have to figure out how to get it from e-mail to WordPress and from my android to WordPress.  Bryson Stott has easy power from an easy swing.  He’s built bigger than I anticipated for a shortstop, big across the shoulders.  Marcus Lee Sang has an athletic build and generates power with a swing that gets quickly through the strike zone.  Kinda like controlled aggression.  Jadiel Sanchez has a slighter build, but had surprising power.  Continue reading Threshers Recap – 7/3//2019

Threshers Recap – 7/1//2019

When I arrived at the Complex, Erik Miller was throwing a live batting practice on Ashburn Field.  I only saw about a dozen pitches.  It looked like he was throwing 3/4 arm slot, but a few appeared to be over the top.  He looked good, can’t wait to see more.

Stott, Lee Sang, and Sanchez were on Schmidt Field, shagging during batting practice.  Just as their group was called to hit, some rain began to fall, what we called a sun shower up north.  The coaches called practice just as the rain stopped.  Stott, Lee Sang, and Sanchez were in the group that was about to take BP.  Dang. Continue reading Threshers Recap – 7/1//2019

Open Discussion: Week of July 1st

The 39-38 Phillies went 5-2 last week.  They swept the Mets but then lost 2 of 3 to the Marlins.  And, they had to come back from behind in all 4 Mets game.  Yeah, it’s great that they were able to rally back, but why are they falling behind like that to the Mets?  At home?  And then blowing a 6-1 lead in Miami.  Not great outcomes as I see it. 2019 Post Draft Discussion; July 1st

The 2019 Draft Tracker is up to date.  All signings and bonuses that have been reported have been recorded.

The Phillies have signed 34 of their 39 draft picks.  With this week’s signing of #1 Bryson Stott, they have signed all nine of their picks in the first ten rounds.  They forfeited their #2 pick when they signed Bryce Harper (who had declined his former team’s qualifying offer).
