There were a couple of live batting practices this morning. Robinson Martinez threw in the second one against a group that included four of the this year’s draft picks – Bryson Stott, Jamari Baylor, Marcus Lee Sang, and Jadiel Sanchez. I watched our three newest players take batting practice today on Roberts Field. I have some video. but I’ll have to figure out how to get it from e-mail to WordPress and from my android to WordPress. Bryson Stott has easy power from an easy swing. He’s built bigger than I anticipated for a shortstop, big across the shoulders. Marcus Lee Sang has an athletic build and generates power with a swing that gets quickly through the strike zone. When I arrived at the Complex, Erik Miller was throwing a live batting practice on Ashburn Field. I only saw about a dozen pitches. It looked like he was throwing 3/4 arm slot, but a few appeared to be over the top. He looked good, can’t wait to see more.
Stott, Lee Sang, and Sanchez were on Schmidt Field, shagging during batting practice. Just as their group was called to hit, some rain began to fall, what we called a sun shower up north. The 39-38 Phillies went 5-2 last week. They swept the Mets but then lost 2 of 3 to the Marlins. And, they had to come back from behind in all 4 Mets game. Yeah, it’s great that they were able to rally back, but why are they falling behind like that to the Mets? At home? And then blowing a 6-1 lead in Miami. Not great outcomes as I see it.
