The Phillies had a 7-1 loss washed off the books when the game was halted after four innings. The minor league games against the Blue Jays, on the other hand, were moved up to 10:00AM because the guys in charge can do that without worrying about advance ticket sales. ‘Cause there are none. 2016 Spring Training, March 28th
The Phillies lost another game, 2-1 to the Blue Jays in Dunedin. Darin Ruf crushed his 4th HR to center field, and Vince Velasquez pitched 6.0, 2-hit innings allowing 3 BB and 8 K. But, the bullpen blew another late lead on a 2-out, 2-run HR in the eighth inning.
The minor league games were cancelled, so there were 2 intrasquad games at the Complex. I watched the game between Teams 1 and 2, mostly AAA and AA guys with a few A+ guys tossed in. I won’t get to see guys like Quinn, Crawford, Hoskins, and Knapp once they go north. So I opted to watch this game without regard for the pitchers. Continue reading 2016 Spring Training, March 28th
2016 Spring Training, March 23rd
The Phillies lost a game in Kissimmee to the Astros, their last trip there since the Astros are moving to another Florida location next spring. Some guy named Giles got the save.

Top Prospect Discussion: October 15th
During an Instructional game at Bright House this week, the conversation turned toward the catching situation in the organization. Of course, as you should expect, there were as many opinions as there were people in the discussion. This topic has been touched on in several comment threads so far. So, let’s get the discussion out in the open where we cover all the possibilities.

AFL – Logan Moore
Logan Moore was a 9th round JUCO pick in 2011 out of Northeastern Junior College in Colorado. He worked his way through the organization and split time between Clearwater and Reading during the 2014 regular season. I watched him make the FSL All Star team in 2013 with a sub .200 batting average on the strength of his over 40% rate of throwing out would be base stealers. He finished that season with a .185 BA and a 41.2% CS rate. Moore’s offense increased in 2014 and he was sent up to Reading when a spat of catcher injuries hit the organization. After a 4 game stint at the end of April at AA, he returned to Clearwater until he was promoted for good at the end of May. Moore’s passed balls and errors declined but so did his CS rate. Florida Instructional League Game #6; 9/27/2014
The Phillies and Orioles faced off in an Instructional League game this morning. It ended in a 1-1 tie after nine innings. The Orioles managed 2 hits, one an infield single, and scored an unearned run on a hit batsman, error catching a pickoff throw, and another error on a throw to try and get the runner at third. The Phillies amassed 4 hits, one an infield single, and scored their run on an Andrew Knapp ground out after Williams Astudillo singled to right and moved to third on a passed ball and a balk. Threshers; May 28, 2014
The Threshers rebounded this afternoon with a gutty 5-4, 11 inning win over the Fort Myers Miracle. For 8 innings, it looked like another 4-hit loss with a decent outing by starter Colin Kleven. But the team staged a two-out rally in the 9th inning to tie the game and eventually won the game in the 11 innings.
Kleven was greeted in the first inning by a Jorge Polanco triple on the second pitch of the game. The Twins #8 prospect scored on a single by the next batter. Kleven responded by retiring the next 3 batters, one via his first of five strike outs. He continued pitching well over the next 3 innings, facing the minimum, allowing 1 hit and recording 2 more strike outs. Kleven pitched into trouble in the 5th inning when he hit a batter after recording his 4th strike out. The Miracle executed a hit-and-run and scored the runner with out a throw on a double. Afterward, his only walk of the game, a sac fly, and his 5th strike out ended the 29-pitch inning. Miguel Gonzalez Begins Rehab with Threshers
Miguel Gonzalez was activated today and began his Major League Rehab Assignment. He started for the Threshers and was less than impressive. I went down to the bullpen to watch his pre-game warmups. It wasn’t pretty. He was consistently high with most of his pitches. At one point, the pitching coach (Bob Milacki, I think) stopped him to pantomine a delivery and release. A few pitches later, Gonzalez launched a wild pitch that Logan Moore could barely get leather on. The ball rattled around in the walkway and eventually rolled through the open door into left field.
