2017 Spring Training, 3/18

 

Groups 3 and 4 faced the Yankees at the Complex today.  The work groups published yesterday have changed or are just a suggestion from day to day.  The group 3 line up consisted of catcher Cabral, infielders D. Hall, Stankiewicz, E. Marrero, L. Williams, outfielders Randolph, C. Duran, Coppola, and DH Barbier, and Laird.  Group 4 was made up of catcher R. 2017 Spring Training, 3/17

On Saint Patrick’s Day the Philies started a three-game home stand at Spectrum Field.  A half dozen players were sent to the minor league.  And an updated list of the minor league groups was available.  After the Phillies game another player was sent down. 2017 Spring Training, 3/15

Spring training games continued for the minor league groups today.  Groups 1 and 2 (AAA and AA) traveled to Bradenton to play the Pirates.  Groups 3 and 4 (A+ and A) played at the Complex.  The youngest players hosted a JuCo squad from Southwest Missouri. Spring training games started for the minor league groups today.  Groups 1 and 2 (AAA and AA) played the Blue Jays at the Complex, Groups 3 and 4 (A+ and A) went on the road.  The youngest players hosted a Canadian 18-and-under team traveling through Florida. 2017 Spring Training, 3/11

No report on the 10th.  I was at the Complex and took some video.  I’ll post them with today’s video.  Friday, another 20-plus pitchers pitched an inning apiece.  Saturday, some of the pitchers from Phillies’ spring training came over and pitched – Jake Thompson, Drew Anderson, and Ricardo Pinto.  A few pitchers threw more than one inning – Jose Nin, Matt Hockenberry, and Miguel Nunez. 2017 Spring Training, 3/9

No report on the 8th.  I was at the Complex, but I didn’t take any video and only made a few observations, so I saved them for today.  I gave a detailed account of the activities the players perform at each of their stations.  I saw that I missed two.  Position players spend rotation in the indoor batting cages.  And, pitchers rotate into the weight room.   Continue reading 2017 Spring Training, 3/9

2017 Spring Training, 3/7

The big league team was back in action today on the road against the Tigers.  Whoever didn’t make the trip probably worked out in the stadium.  But, I arrived at the Complex in time to see the end of live BP by Jake Thompson.  Other pitchers included Zach Eflin, Alberto Tirado, and Joaquin Benoit.  Dylan Cozens took some swings.  I think Andres Blanco did as well.  Three catchers were on hand – Cameron Rupp, Andrew Knapp, and Chace Numata. Monday saw the minor league camp go into full swing.  The players scattered over the four fields at the Carpenter Complex and a fifth group crossed over to DiMaggio Field.  While we waited for practice drills to start, the Spring Training 2017 Work groups were delivered and distributed. 2017 Spring Training, 3/4

Minor League camp is set to start full bore Sunday.  Friday, the pitchers checked in and attended meetings and had their physicals.  They did some long toss and running but were dismissed by noon.  Saturday, the pitchers worked out while the position players checked-in, attended meetings, and took their physicals.  After lunch, the pitchers were dismissed and the position players broke into four groups, one on each of the four fields.  The coaches put them through some defensive drills while conducting batting practice.   Continue reading 2017 Spring Training, 3/4
