The Lakewood BlueClaws’ season came to an end last night. Their stellar second-half run fell short of an SAL championship when they were bested by the Rome Braves in a best of five series, three games to one. Rome’s array of first round starting pitchers proved to be too strong for the BlueClaws’ hitters. They were held to two runs while losing the final three games of the series. Box Score Recap; Post Season – 9/15/2016
The Lakewood BlueClaws wasted some fine pitching last night as they were shut out by the Rome Braves. They trail the Braves in the SAL championship series, two games to one. Lakewood ran into another tough pitcher in Kolby Allard. The BlueClaws’ Alberto Tirado was almost as effective, and the bull pen was efficient, again.
Game four is an elimination game for the BlueClaws. It will be played in Lakewood on Thursday night. Continue reading Box Score Recap; Post Season – 9/15/2016
2016 Instructional League Schedule and Roster Update
I picked up the Phillies’ 2016 Instructional League Schedule at the Carpenter Complex today. I also picked up the official roster. And, yes, Cole Stobbe will be here as reported in an interview in the Omaha World Herald, shared with us by Bobby Pedagogy, and surmised by the rest of us.
I have attached the schedule and roster below. Continue reading 2016 Instructional League Schedule and Roster Update
2016 Instructs Roster
Baseball America posted a report that lists the players the Phillies invited to Instructs this fall. Players are scheduled to report this Sunday. I won’t have to stalk the Complex to get a roster this year. Yay!
The list includes 62 prospects – 30 pitchers, 7 catchers, 14 infielders, and 11 outfielders. Continue reading 2016 Instructs Roster

The Lakewood BlueClaws dropped game two of the SAL championship series. They ran into a buzz saw named Touki Toussaint. Only Damek Tomscha was able to figure out the Braves prospect. Lakewood’s defense was generous, returning some of the largess that Rome presented in game one . Starter Seranthony Dominguez posted an inferior line. But, the bull pen was able to return the game to some semblance of normalcy.
Travel day Wednesday, game three will be in Lakewood on Thursday night. Continue reading Box Score Recap; Post Season – 9/13/2016

The Lakewood BlueClaws won the first game in the SAL championship series last night behind a superior effort by Franklyn Kilome. The lanky, right-hander was perfect for four innings and was barely tested.
Game two is in Rome Tuesday night. Continue reading Box Score Recap; Post Season – 9/12/2016

Open Discussion: Week of September 12th
Here’s the open discussion thread for Phillies’ talk and other topics.
The Phillies went 3-4 on the road against a couple of division foes last week. They took 2 of 3 from the fading Marlins, and dropped 3 of four against the division leading Nationals. Their record stands at 63-80 (21-32 since the All Star break). BTW, in last weeks discussion, I did predict that the Nationals would lose a game to the Phillies, sort of. … and then there was one.
Reading’s playoff run came to an end last night in a 3-2 loss at home to Trenton. That leaves only one team from the organization alive in the post season, the Lakewood BlueClaws.
With our teams having been eliminated by teams affiliated with the Cardinals and Yankees, Lakewood will continue their playoff run against the Rome Braves, the Class A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. They begin the championship series on Monday on the road. Continue reading Box Score Recap; Post Season – 9/10/2016

The organization’s three teams that remained active in the post season were in action Friday night. One advanced to the next round, one remained alive in their current series, and one was eliminated.
Lehigh Valley was unable to extend their season and were routed at home.
Reading returned home and their offense came alive as they forced a fourth game.
Lakewood completed a sweep of the Northern Division series and will wait for the winner of the Southern Division. Continue reading Box Score Recap; Post Season – 9/9/2016
