Open Discussion: Week of June 18th

Weekly Discussion

The Phillies were 1-6 last week.  The lone bright spot was their 1-0 victory over the Red Sox and Chris Sale.  Nick Pivetta laid out the blue print for the rest of the starting rotation – throw seven shutout innings and hope the bull pen doesn’t screw it up.  The Phillies were lucky that Pat Neshek and Hector Neris were able to close out the final two innings and the offense was able to scratch out a run.

After a day off Monday, three games at home v. the Cardinals and three on the road in Arizona.

The Phillies are still the worst team in baseball with a 22-46 record and .324 winning percentage.  Things get better when they face the  Red Sox and Diamondbacks.

Reading lost although Carlos Tocci is approaching .300 with 3 hits including a triple.

Clearwater and the FSL are on their All Star Break.

Lakewood won their 40th game, but fell short of the first half division title.

Lehigh Valley won behind Eshelman’s strong start, Beato’s rebound, and Williams’ 14th.

Reading pulled away after being tied in the fourth.

Clearwater and the FSL are on their All Star Break, Jose Taveras selected to start.

Lakewood was one-hit for eight innings before Gamboa tied the game in regulation and won it in ten.  Sanchez pitched well, as did Llovera and Hibbs..

Lehigh Valley got skunked in the top of the ninth.  Ugly dispersal of a 2-run lead.

Reading gave up 4 runs after the fifth inning and lost in a walk off.

Clearwater and the FSL are on their All Star Break, 8 Threshers selected.

Lakewood won behind JoJoRo’s 10 strike outs and 8 shutout innings.

And, the first post draft casualty was recorded when Alex Wojciechowski was released.

2017 Post Draft Discussion

2017 Draft

Here’s the final thread to continue talking about the 2017 First Year Player Draft.

The Phillies concluded their portion of the 2017 First Year Player Draft with picks 11 thru 40. Those selections, as well as the first ten,  are being tracked in our 2017 Draft Tracker. Box Score Recap – 6/14/2017

Lehigh Valley was held scoreless after Tuesday night’s offensive explosion.

Reading came from behind to claim victory.

Clearwater dropped a double header in which they scored one run and allowed 5 unearned runs.  They likely cost themselves the first half race with 4 games remaining.

Lakewood scored 14 runs on 21 hits on their way to a lop-sided victory.

2017 Draft Discussion: Day Three

2017 Draft

Here’s the thread to continue talking about the 2017 First Year Player Draft.

With the 3:83 pick, the Phillies selected RHP Connor Seabold, Cal State Fullerton
