DJ Jefferson is a non-drafted free agent out of Desert Oasis High School (NV). He’s a tall, thin RHP, 6’5, 185. He’s 18, born January 9, 2001. I can’t recall any other NDFA the Phillies have ever signed out of high school. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s assigned to a roster or held back as a future sign. I first noticed him at the Complex last week.
He was identified in MLB’s draft tracker as DJ Figgins-Jefferson. He’s from Las Vegas and appears to know Bryson Stott. Perfect Game lists him as a RHP/1B. Here’s their scouting report on Jefferson.
DJ Jefferson is a 2019 RHP/1B with a 6-5 185 lb. frame from Las Vegas, NV who attends Desert Oasis HS. Very long and slender build, lots of physical projection. Extremely long and deep arm action, high 3/4’s arm slot, rhythmic delivery with some energy on release, full extension out front, big angle to the plate. Primary fastball pitcher, topped out at 92 mph with lots more there and extension gives him additional velocity, fastball is mostly straight but thrown for strikes and is kept down in the zone. Curveball was much improved since last summer and can be mixed in more, also flashed a change up. High ceiling arm who is still developing skills. Verbal commitment to Southern California.
