The Clearwater Threshers and Dunedin Blue Jays were rained out Saturday night. Lakeland won and picked up a half game. The rain hurt Dunedin more. They were scheduled to play a double header. One game can be made up on Sunday, but the other was cancelled. Elimination numbers remain seven and four respectively.

Sati Santa Cruz, a 21 yo,righty, 32nd rounder last year has 23 BBs in 17+ IP. He has 11 Ks. Last year, he had 10 BBs in 8 games and 11 Ks. Gabriel Cotto has 16 BBs in 15 IP and 15 Ks. For a guy who pitches in the low to mid-80s, a BB+ an inning is not good. At least he’s a lefthanded, 7th round pick and only 18. I’m just listing the facts.
Yesterday was the last game for the DSL teams. Also yesterday, I listed some of the hitting stars for the 2 teams. Today, I’ll list a few pitchers.
Cristian Hernandez is a 17 yo with a 2.57 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. He had 49 Ks and 10 BBs. He’s listed at 6’3″ 180 so he could grow some more. He also gave up 10 unearned runs and 18 ERs. I think we’ll see a lot of unearned runs especially in the DSL. Manuel Urias, another 17 yo had a 1.95 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. He’s 6’6″ 200 so he’s intriguing. Luis Gomez, yet another 17 yo, started the year with Red team and didn’t pitch very well but when they shifted him to the White, things changed. He finished with a 1.40 ER and a .67 WHIP for the White. He’s a 6’1″ righty. Efrain Morales, 17 yo pitched for the White first and then was switched to the Red. He had a 1.80 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP for Red. He’s a 6′ righty.
Juan Miranda is an intriguer. He’s 19 but had a .99 ERA and .72 WHIP. He was 7 for 7 in saves and then used him as a starter late in the season. He was equally useful in both roles. In fact he had a 0.00 ERA and .55 WHIP in 10 relief appearances. He’s listed as 5’11” but the Phils might like to take a closer look at him. Israel Puello is another 17 yo who is 6’3″ and had some very good games and a few stinkers. He K’ed 60 in 65 IP. He also had a lot of BBs so some of those crappy starts were self-inflicted. Luis Pacheco, a 19 yo, had a 2.00 ERA with 61 K’s in 63 IP. He’s not young for the DSL but might cause the Phils to take a deeper look.
There are a lot of young pitchers in the DSL so I’m sure I missed a couple of good solid prospects.
RHP Israel Puello was a fairly large singing bonus in last year’s class, $450Kplus, so the Phillies do have higher expectations and more of an investment in him.
signing…not singing.
RHP Jose Taveras, designated for assignment earlier, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Reading. And RHP Edgar Garcia was promoted to Lehigh Valley
I would assume Garcia will be a candidate for the bullpen in philly next yr
Yes…he should be.
Phillies do have a real stable of relievers coming up thru the ranks ….all in the next 2/3 years….JD Hammer,Tyler Gilbert, as mentioned Edgar Garcia, Kyle Dohy, Addison Russ, local kid Zach Warren, Connor Brogdon, and Jakob Hernandez.
Did anyone get eyes on Eickhoff? Velo?
Sort of the same as last week, topping around 91 (could’ve hit higher, wasn’t paying as much attention to that this game). What he did do early on was run a lot of high counts, he settled down a little bit after that. He did get out of a few jams, so his stat line is a tad misleading. Not sure how he’ll help philly come September whether it’s moving pivetta to the pen or whatnot.
Did anyone get eyes on Eickhoff? Velo?
Final line for Mauricio Llovera in game 1 – W, CG, 7 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 11 K. 94 pitches, 63 strikes. https://t.co/zzzYhhTmEg
