  1. I know this isn’t the general discussion thread but Ramos! The big club needs the offense. Possibly couple more weeks for him?

    1. He caught 9 innings last night for the first time in rehab. That means he’s close to returning. Unless his hammie doesn’t respond well this morning.

      1. Sunday after hitting the doubles he got out of the box pretty gingerly, the burst was suppressed I assume to avoid any re-occurrence.
I guess why mess with it in early rehab assignment games.

  2. Joey Meneses is sure as heck looking like a major league hitter. He started the year well and has done nothing but gain even more momentum the last few months. It is tempting to ignore him or write him off, but they shouldn’t do that.

      1. DMAR….possibly….but first things first….he needs to gain about 30 lbs and grow another 3 inches

        1. Haha yeah the 3 inches probably isn’t happening at 26 but Carlos has played all 117 games. I know its frowned upon but I would still try to create a DL stint for him and let him get a breather so we can get a look at Joey before rosters expand.

    1. I agree, Catch. Who cares if he is 26. Like that is ancient or something. The Phillies are in a struggle for the division title and wild card. If this guy can help then you do it.

      1. Well, it does matter that he is 26, but it doesn’t matter so much that you should totally disregard what he is doing and many clubs would do that. He is on the outer edge of prospect land but he’s still there and he’s producing at a high level.

  3. During the Lakewood game yesterday the opposing manager stopped the game in the middle of the 2nd inning, gathered the umpires and had them check Spencer’s glove and hat for an illegal substance. Come to find out this manager has done this on numerous occasions obviously to get under the pitchers skin. Baseball is a very mental game and playing mind games is part of it but to accuse the opposing pitcher of cheating is BS. Sorry for the rant. I feel better now!

    1. Mr Howard … Spencer was so dominant, the opposing manager felt he needed to do something to slow him down. I’m surprised he hasn’t been promoted to Clearwater yet.
From everything I’ve read, your son works off his FB and SL. How are his CH and cutter progressing ?

      1. I think there’s a good chance he gets promoted for his last two starts – he appears to be ready.

      2. I think the time at Lakewood has been what he needed, if the results are telling us anything. Maybe a taste of the next level is in order but if not, he still gets to have a go at Clearwater next season.

      3. @Hinkie – Howard is my breakout pitcher for the year. I thought he’s going to make a quick stop in LWD then finish in REA before the season ends. The stuff has been better this year particularly the FB-SL combo – FB velo is up and the explosiveness is still there, SL is sharper and harder. Cutter still looks good but CU is still inconsistent showing good life at times,

Howard main issue this year is Vinny-velo like —- command and efficiency. But Howard is getting the better handle of his pitches in his last 5-6 starts. I think he will finish in CLW.

  4. Thank you each day for updates on our Minors. Must be getting close to end of season for you too. Usual in-depth of each players stat in BOLD have disappeared. No problem just like that.

    Thanks again

    1. I’m on vacation and told everyone that the recaps would be shorter before I left. How many people do you know who work on their vacation. And for free.

  5. Yoan Antonac, the 6’9″ pitcher from Montpellier — wait for it — France, saw his first professional action yesterday. Are we sure he’s not a #5 for the 76’ers and just got lost on his way into the states?

  6. If Mickey Moniak changed his swing, good for him. He has gone back to spraying line drives all over the field. He has gotten comfortable at the plate, and has increased his walks as a result. If the Phillies altered his swing in the first place in order to increase his power, shame on them, as this is not his strength. And I hope he keeps getting better. I have been a critic of his performance, only because he was a #1 pick, and for a team that was as bad as the Phillies were, it was too important a pick to have failed.

    1. I don’t think anyone needs to apologize about being skeptical regarding MM’s performance. Last year and early this year were very bad for a top prospect. It doesn’t mean we weren’t rooting for him, just that we had some skepticism about whether he can make it and it was based on his performance.

      1. No one needs to apologize for be a skeptic of his performance but you’re being kind to those who where declaring him to be a failed pick, bust, etc. at the ripe old age of 19.

No one knows if he will become what we hope he will be with the Phillies moving forward but it wasn’t never going to be determined after 1+ season of professional baseball.

  7. Bailey Falter is quietly having another good year despite missing a month due to injury. Falter still have the advance control of his 3-mix pitch with FB getting an extra 1-2mph in velo — still in low 90s but touching 94-95. Falter gets his Ks mainly due to his advance command, but both CB and CU still need some work.

Victor Santos, Jonas dela Cruz and Jose Rivera are another group of Sal A.’s find that can be very interesting. Victor Santos can be another pitching gem who can have a MOR potential. As per MattWinks, Changeup and control are his big strengths.

  8. Logan Simmons also starting to figure things out. Logan Simmons is still 18 yo when 2019 season starts, he might repeat GCL and hopefully follow the Jake Holmes development.

    1. Some great ballplayers have come out of Georgia…about time the Phillies can get some in their ” professional infancy’.

    2. I never doubted Logan Simmons. He’s been in my top 30 since the day he was drafted. This time last year, Simmons was starring on the summer showcase circuit, and was considered a potential first round draft pick. Good for Johnny Almaraz not giving up on Simmons after a down senior season. He’s got the tools (big bat/strong arm) to be a premier prospect on the left side of the infield.

The list of MIF/3B prospects the Phillies are collecting is pretty strong. It starts with Alec Bohm and Luis Garcia, but guys like Nick Maton, Logan Simmons, Arquimedes Gamboa, Jonathan Guzman, Jake Holmes, DJ Stewart, Daniel Brito, Brayan Gonzalez, Jake Sheiner, and Nicolas Torres are all capable of one day playing in MLB.

  9. I’m also hearing good things about Bohm’s rehab assignment. Hopefully it was a freak injury and he can keep rolling through the end of the season. #3 overall pick from College shouldn’t take all that long to get to Philly.

  10. A site favorite got traded.
Rays acquired RHP Shane Baz from the Pirates as the player to be named later in the Chris Archer trade.

    1. Whoa !!!! What a deal for the Rays !!!

BTW … this shows just how much it would take to get Blake Snell from TB. Earlier this summer, I said I would give up Sixto Sanchez, Alec Bohm, JoJo Romero, and Jhailyn Ortiz for Snell this winter. All of you thought that was crazy/way too much. Think again. I’d still do that deal this off-season.

      1. Oops, was done already…they DFAed him four days ago….guess he knew he was going somewhere else.
