Phuture Phillies 2018 Reader Top 30 Poll for the Phillies #5 Prospect

Jhailyn Ortiz was your selection as the #4 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.

Ortiz received 89 of 260 votes (34%).  Jorge Alfaro finished second (71 votes, 27%).  Adam Haseley (32, 12%) and Adonis Medina (24, 9%) finished third and fourth.  Fourteen players collected the remaining 44 votes. Phuture Phillies 2018 Reader Top 30 Poll for the Phillies #4 Prospect

J.P. Crawford was your selection as the #3 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.

Crawford had been the Readers’ top prospect the past three years.  This year, Crawford was the overwhelming choice as the third best prospect in the organization.  He garnered 222 of 285 votes (78%).  Jhailyn Ortiz finished second (14, 5%).  Jorge Alfaro and Adam Haseley tied for third with 11 votes each (4%).  Eleven other players shared the remaining 27 votes. Phuture Phillies 2018 Reader Top 30 Poll for the Phillies #3 Prospect

Scott Kingery was your selection as the #2 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.

Kingery was your selection as the #11 prospect in the Phillies’ organization last season. This year, Kingery captured a majority decision receiving 150 of 291 votes (52%).  J.P. Phuture Phillies 2018 Reader Top 30 Poll for the Phillies #2 Prospect

Sixto Sanchez was your selection as the #1 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.

For the first time since 2015, the Phuture Phillies top prospect will be some one other than J.P. Crawford.  Sanchez received 105 of 254 votes cast (41%).  Scott Kingery (70 votes, 28%) and Crawford (68, 27%) finished second and third.  Seven other players shared eleven votes. Phuture Phillies 2018 Reader Top 30 Poll for the Phillies #1 Prospect

Welcome to the 2018 Reader Top 30!

Well, here we go.  This should take us through the end of January.  A short two weeks later, pitchers and catchers can report on February 13th and have their first work out the following day, signalling the start of spring training.  The first full squad work out is just a couple days later.  Just 50 or so days to go. Open Discussion: Week of December 24th

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate.  Happy Holiday Season to all.  Very little Phillies’ activity this week.

The Phillies announced their minor league coaching staffs and development team.

A couple recent transactions have been finalized.

A handful of DSL players were released.  There’s a nice holiday present.

2018 Phuture Phillies Reader Top 30 Poll

Time to get ready for the 2018 Reader Top 30 Prospect Poll.  I will start polling in a week or so, and plan on posting a poll each weekday.  We will continue to follow baseball’s standards for prospect lists which states –

“To be eligible for a list, a player must have rookie eligibility. To qualify for rookie status, a player must not have exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues, or accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the 25-player limit period, excluding time on the disabled list or in military service.”

“The rankings follow the guidelines laid out by the new Collective Bargaining Agreement in terms of who falls under the international pool money rules: Players who are at least 23 years old and played in leagues deemed to be professional (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Cuba) are not eligible.” Continue reading 2018 Phuture Phillies Reader Top 30 Poll

Open Discussion: Week of December 17th

The Phillies’ hot stove season went from low to medium with some transactional activity at the Winter Meetings.  Their stove cranked up to high with a trade and free agent signing on Friday.

The Phillies finally completed their major league coaching staff when they announced their first base coach.
