Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/11/2021

All four affiliates flipped venues and were on the road last night.  However, the outcome was the same, we won just one of the four contests.  Clearwater overcame an early deficit and won going away as one of their 2020 picks made his mark.  Lehigh Valley was shut out.  Reading fell behind early and couldn’t recover.  And, Jersey Shore blew an early lead, rallied to tie, and lost in overtime.

2021 Discussion in Preparation for the Amateur Draft – May 11, 2021

This is the Phuture Phillies forum for the discussion of prospects eligible for the amateur draft that is scheduled to be held in 2 months (July 11-13, 2021).  You can place video, scouting reports, or just comments here.  You can reference these weekly discussions on the menu above.

Feel free to discuss the 2021 international signing period, too.  It began on January 15, 2021, and runs through June 25, 2021.

This space is for the discussion of prospects in the upcoming draft and international signing period.  This is NOT a place for you to complain about past picks/signings or the organization’s past/current draft and international philosophies.

Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/9/2021

We won just one of four contests on Sunday.  Clearwater’s late rally fell short.  Lehigh Valley won a rain-shortened game.  Reading also rallied and fell short.  Jersey Shore got stomped.

It’s too early to tell, but these 6-game series seem to create some familiarity between the teams.  They are more likely to see all the pitchers twice with a 5-man rotation/piggyback.

Open Discussion: Week of May 9, 2021

Okay, the minor leagues started this week.  So, I care a lot less about the Phillies than I have during the past year.  I’m having a difficult time getting back into the routine I had during seasons past.  Until I get a workable routine, I may drop the weekly back to Monday when ALL four affiliates are off.  And, I’ll try to remember to post a Draft article before each weekend’s college action.  Hopefully Wednesday night.

That means I’ll probably spend less time on Phillies stuff like records and schedule, and just get out a place for you to discuss the Phillies. Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of May 9, 2021

Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/8/2021

We took 3 out of 4 last night.  Clearwater rallied for 4 runs to walk off against Lakeland.  Lehigh Valley used a balanced attack plus solid pitching to post a victory against Rochester.  Reading beat Erie and an old friend, pitcher Ricardo Pinto.  And, Jersey Shore withered under the relentless attack from Hudson Valley.

Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/7/2021

On a night when the big club kicked some butt in Asslanta, the affiliates split again. with one team coming within one pitch, one bobble of that third win.

Clearwater was that team.  An apparent missed third strike by the umpire with two outs didn’t seem to matter when the ball was hit to Edgar Made (ma-day’) at third base.  It was hit hard and he bobbled the ball before throwing late to first.  Lakeland tied the game and went o to score 4 runs in overtime.  Lehigh Valley dug too deep a hole to walk off and lost.  Reading picked up their first win of the season.  And, Jersey Shore was one-hit but won the game. Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/6/2021

We took three out of four last night.  Clearwater got solid pitching and four pitchers combined to throw a shutout.  Lehigh Valley walked off again.  This time in the tenth inning on CJ Chatham’s RBI single.  in the ninth on a wild pitch.  Reading lost again.  The winning pitcher was old friend, Mark Leiter Jr.  Jersey Shore broke open a close game with a 4-run inning.

The most interesting news is probably that the Clearwater home plate umpire apparently opted out of wearing the ABS equipment.  I did not know they had that option.  (They don’t.) Continue reading Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/6/2021

Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/5/2021

All four games seemed to run late.  Our guys split 2-2, again.  Clearwater walked off with the most exciting walk off in baseball, a grand slam, smoked by DJ Stewart.  Lakeland’s poor base running and foolish challenges of Abrahan Gutierrez’ arm helped.  Lehigh Valley walked off in the ninth on a wild pitch.  Reading lost big (again) and was three-hit.  Jersey Shore was shut out on two hits.

It’s after 3:00 AM.  If I missed anything, I’m sorry. Goodnight. Continue reading Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/5/2021

Threshers’ and Affiliates’ Recap – 5/4/2021

Finally, minor league baseball.  Our guys all opened at home.  They split 2-2.  Clearwater got some promising pitching, but a 6-run inning and some shoddy outfield play hurt.  Lehigh Valley got some solid pitching and an overtime win on Scott Kingery’s 2-run base hit.  Reading lost big but got HRs from Gamboa, Miller, and Guthrie.  Jersey Shore got a stellar start from Ben Brown, some solid relief, and excellent run support provided by Jhailyn Ortiz and Logan O’Hoppe.
