Threshers Recap – 6/1/2019

Clearwater (29-26) beat Dunedin, 3-0, behind a fine pitching performance by Damon Jones (3-3, 1.37).  The left-handed starter took a perfect game into the sixth inning and tossed seven full innings, a career high.  Jones allowed 2 hits, walked none, and struck out a career high eleven batters. Threshers Recap – 5/31/2019

Clearwater (28-26) began an important series against first place Dunedin and forgot their bats as they lost 3-1.

Ethan Evanko (2-1, 2.01) pitched effectively but gave up 2 runs (1 ER) in six innings.  He gave up 8 hits and walked three while striking out a career high seven Blue Jays.  Continue reading Threshers Recap – 5/31/2019

Threshers Recap – 5/30/2019

At the Complex today, the Phillies played a couple of low-scoring games against the Blue Jays.  They won 2-1 on Ashburn Field in 2 hours and ten minutes.  They took a 2-0 lead into the ninth on Roberts Field, but settled for a tie.

I watched Starlyn Castillo for a few innings on Roberts.  He looked pretty good. Continue reading Threshers Recap – 5/30/2019

Threshers Recap – 5/29/2019

I went to the Complex again.  The players took part in an intrasquad game.  Just a few observations.  The Phillies have altered their practice of on base situations to start some of the innings.  Instead of starting the inning with guys on base and playing the inning to its conclusion, they restart the inning after the situational experience is completed.  For instance, if they start with runners on first and second, after the batter bunts (or fails to bunt) the runners over, the runners leave the field, the pitcher and batter start the inning  over clean, and any hits/runs/outs recorded during the play don’t count. Threshers Recap – 5/28/2019

I made it to the Complex today.  Jan Hernandez took at bats in an XST game.  He should be ready to return to Lehigh soon.  Might get some rehab at bats with Clearwater first.

Kyle Young, who had TJ surgery back on May 8th (I think), has been in Clearwater for a week as he begins his long rehab.  Learned that Ben Brown had surgery last week.

Clearwater (26-25) lost to Charlotte, 7-0. Continue reading Threshers Recap – 5/28/2019

Threshers Recap – 5/27/2019

There has been a lot of discussion regarding Deivi Grullon.  Sure, he’s off to a great start.  But, maybe just consider him this year’s Joey Meneses.  A guy who puts up great numbers but doesn’t really have a spot on the 40-man roster. Continue reading Threshers Recap – 5/27/2019

Threshers Recap – 5/26/2019

Clearwater (26-24) completed their 4-game sweep off the Jupiter Hammerheads with a shutout of the Jupiter Hammerheads.  They were paced by Colton Eastman, Zach Warren, and Grant Dyer who combined to 2-hit the weaker sharks.

The win put the Threshers two games over .500 and pulled them within 3.5 games of first place.  After a day off on Monday, they  complete their road trip with a 3-game set against tha Charlotte Stone Crabs before returning home for an important 3-game set with first-place Dunedin.   Continue reading Threshers Recap – 5/26/2019
