Well, here we go.  This should take us through the end of January.  A short two weeks later, pitchers and catchers report on February 13th and have their first work out on the 14th, signalling the start of spring training.  The first full squad work out is on the 17th.  Just 63 days to go. 2017 Phuture Phillies Reader Top 30 Poll

Time to get ready for the 2017 Reader Top 30 Prospect Poll.  I will start this week and try to post a poll each weekday.  We will continue to follow baseball’s standards for prospect lists which states –

“To be eligible for a list, a player must have rookie eligibility. To qualify for rookie status, a player must not have exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues, or accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the 25-player limit period, excluding time on the disabled list or in military service.”

“The rankings follow the guidelines laid out by the new Collective Bargaining Agreement in terms of who falls under the international pool money rules: Players who are at least 23 years old and played in leagues deemed to be professional (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Cuba) are not eligible.” Continue reading 2017 Phuture Phillies Reader Top 30 Poll

Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30

Aaron Brown was selected the Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Poll’s 30th ranked prospect. In a dead heat Brown and Lucas Williams each received 30% of the 273 votes cast.  Brown edged Williams by one vote, 82-81.  There was a big drop-off after that to Edubray Ramos with 33 votes (12%).  No one else received more than 10 votes. Victor Arano was selected the Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Poll’s 29th ranked prospect. He received  67 of 330 votes (20%).  He bested Lucas Williams by 7 votes.  This should set up a heated race between Williams (60 votes) and Aaron Brown (58 votes) for the final spot in our Top 30. Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30 #28

In a close race, Tom Windle was selected the Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Poll’s 27th ranked prospect.  He received 82 of 331 votes (25%).  He finished slightly ahead of Jose Pujols (74 votes, 22%).  Victor Arano finished a distant third (38 votes, 11%). Phuture Phillies 2016 Reader Top 30 #26

Darnell Sweeney was selected the Readers’ Poll 25th prospect.  He received 72 of 304 votes (24%).  He finished ahead of Alberto Tirado who received 60 votes (20%).  Tom Windle (33 votes), Jose Pujols (30), and Victor Arano (26) were bunched in the next group comfortably ahead of the rest of the field.
