Box Score Recap – 7/30/2017

The Clearwater Threshers’ starting pitchers have been putting up some good numbers over the past few games.  They culminated in Harold Arauz’ seven-inning no-hitter against the Fort Myers Miracle.  He came within 2 outs of a perfect game.  His performance was as dominant as any I’ve seen over the last two seasons, and Arauz fastball barely reaches 89 MPH.  Arauz had Miracle batters flailing away at his array of off speed pitches.  Phuture Phillies readers can be happy that they recognized Arauz’ potential by rating him their 13th best prospect in their Readers’ Poll. Open Discussion: Week of July 30th

The Phillies had another good week going 4-2, crushing Houston after dropping the first 2 games of the series and then taking 3 games from the Braves.  They have won 4 in a row and 8 of their last 11 games.  They have a 34-64 record and a .373 PCT.  They have closed ground on the peloton (if I can borrow a cycling term) and are no longer the consensus worst team in baseball. Box Score Recap – 7/28/2017

At 3:00 PM this afternoon, I made the mistake of deciding on my lead for the Recap.  Seven hours later, I had to rethink that decision.  Because, in roughly a 24-hour period, I got to watch four walk off victories.

As I reported here yesterday, the GCL Phillies won on Jake Holmes. RBI single in the ninth inning and the Threshers won on Jan Hernandez’ 2-run HR in the ninth inning.

Today, they did it again.  The GCL Phillies won on Yahir Gurrola’s RBI single in the tenth inning and the Threshers won on Derek Campbell’s RBI single in the ninth.  These were the only affiliates wins as Lehigh Valley and Reading were outscored and Lakewood and Williamsport were trounced.
