Clearwater Threshers Recap – 7/9/2018

Oops, I did it again.  Sorry, but I’ve wrenched my back again.  It is very uncomfortable sitting at the computer.  I’m spending most of the day on my back.  Hopefully, this will only last a couple days like last time.

The Clearwater Threshers (42-43) lost to Dunedin, 7-0.  Adonis Medina (8-3, 4.92) gave up all 7 runs on 7 hits and 2 HR.  Blake Quinn and Alberto Tirado tossed a combined 5.1 shutout innings in relief.

Haseley, Moniak, Lartigue, and Lino had the only base hits for the Threshers.

GCP Phillies East (10-6) split a double header with the Yankees East, losing 7-6 and winning 6-2.

GCL Phillies West (9-7) lost to the GCL Blue Jays, 6-5 in a walk off.

Lehigh Valley (53-36) All Star break.

Reading (41-47) All Star break.

Lakewood (51-36) lost to Kannapolis, 6-2.  Will Stewart (1.25) pitched five, 2-hit, shutout innings. But, Ismael Cabrera couldn’t get through an inning and blew the save and took the loss.  Jhailyn Ortiz launched his 9th HR.  Jake Scheiner (.280) and Josh Stephen (.243) had 2 hits each.

Williamsport (9-14) lost to Mahoning Valley, 6-3.  Gustavo Armas was done in by a 4-run sixth inning.  Ben Pelletier his his first HR.  Marchan, Guzman, Rodriguez, and Pelletier had 2 hits each.

Alec Bohm was hit by a pitch and left the game.  Ian Catherine reported, “Alec Bohm led off the inning, getting drilled in the left leg by a Randy Valladares pitch, sending Bohm to the dirt in obvious pain.  After being checked out by the training staff, Bohm was helped off the field by the training staff, putting little to no weight on the leg.”

And these from his Twitter.

DSL Phillies Red (10-22) beat Cardinals Blue, 4-3.

DSL Phillies White (17-14) beat Cardinals Red, 10-7.

  1. Numbers aren’t great for Jhailyn, but I’d consider this a good year for the young big man in a tough league for a young hitter.

  2. This is the second time Bohm has exited a game due to being hit by a pitch. I’m going to take this as a sign that he is the second coming of Chase Utley in Kris Bryant’s body.

    Hope he’s OK.

  3. The GCL teams are very intriguing. They are both hitting well and pitching well. The West team leads the league in BA with the East team 4th. The West team Ks the 2nd least in the league and the East is 4th least. The West leads in SBs but has only 1 HR YTD (16 games). It looks like the Phils split the guys pretty evenly. They are close in nearly every offensive category. If you need to tell them apart, the West has a lot more speed but less power and the East team is the opposite.

On the pitching side, The East team is 4th in ERA. West is 6th. East and West have nearly the same WHIP. The teams have the same Ks and the BBs are close. The West team has given up a lot more HRs but both teams have similar similar ERs. Again, the Phils matched up these teams evenly.

  4. Anyone know how hard Tirado is throwing these days? K #s have been decent but not eye-popping this year.

  5. Yes Jim hope all is well. Get too a good Back Doc.
Steward pitching a 2hitter again he’s really showing a need to advance.
