Around the System–Starting Pitching, LV, REA, CW

Lehigh Valley

Cole Irvin, 24, Phils 5th round pick of 2016 draft; 16 starts, 8-3 with a 2.76ERA; 101IP 86H 19BB 87K; 1.04WHIP; 1.7BB/7.8K per 9; .192 vs LHH, .246 vs RHH, .214 opp avg with RISP; Irvin has been consistently excellent all season and should be on the verge on a big league call up.

Enyel De Los Santos, 22, Acquired from San Diego in 2017; 15 starts, 8-3 with a 1.91ERA; 89.1IP 68H 30BB 85K; 1.09WHIP; 3.0BB/8.6K per 9; .236 vs LHH, .189 vs RHH, .131 opp avg with runners on base; See Irvin but perhaps a notch better

Tom Eshelman, 24, Acquired from Houston in 2015; 15 starts, 1-7 with a 6.78ERA: 71.1IP  107H 21BB 51K; 1.87WHIP; 3.2BB/6.5K per 9; .373 vs LHH, .331 vs RHH, .365 opp avg with runners on base; Eshleman was probably the starter closest to a call up as the season began and has had just a miserable year.

Drew Anderson, 24, Phils 21st round pick in 2012; 9 starts; 5-2, 3.35ERA; 48.1IP 38H 12BB 40K; 1.03WHIP; 2.2BB/7.4K per 9; .231 vs LHH, .193 vs RHH, .194 opp avg with runners on base; Anderson has pitched largely very well after missing the first month plus injured.  Biggest issue is his health long term.  Averaging a touch of 5IP a start

Ranger Suarez, 22, Signed as a free agent in 2011; 13 starts between Reading and LV; 4-3 with a 2.71ERA; 79.2IP 72H 20BB 60K; 1.18WHIP; 2.5BB 6.8K per 9; .222 vs LHH, .252 vs RHH, .285 opp avg with runners on base; Suarez has thrown well earning his recent promotion to AAA.

Ben Lively, 26, Acquired from Reds in 2014; 8 starts, 2-2 with a 2.44ERA: 48IP 34H 15BB 42K; 1.02WHIP; 2.8BB/7.9K per 9; .263 vs LHH, .233 vs RHH, .292 opp avg with runners on base; Lively was with the Phils for several weeks and then sent down after several bumpy outings and a DL stint.  After throwing well for LV, Lively is back on the DL.

Reading

Harold Arauz, 23, Acquired from Dodgers in 2016; 16 starts, 5-4 with a 4.77ERA; 88.2IP 94H 32BB 72K; 1.42WHIP; 3.2BB/7.3K per 9; .294 vs LHH, .252 vs RHH, .326 opp avg with runners on base; Has been mediocre this season after a very good 2017.

JoJo Romero, 21, Phils 4th round pick in 2016; 16 starts, 6-6 with a 4.27ERA; 92.2IP 86H 35BB 88K; 1.30WHIP; 3.4BB/8.5K per 9; .225 vs LHH, .253 vs RHH, .247 opp avg with runners on base; AFter an abysmal April, ROmero has been throwing like we have expected as of late with a 3-2 record and a 3.25ERA in his last 6 starts.

Franklyn Kilome, 23, Signed as a free agent in 2013; 15 starts, 2-5 with a 4.91ERA; 77IP 77H 38BB 62K; 1.49WHIP; 4.4BB/7.2K per 9; .295 vs LHH, .237 vs RHH, .273 opp avg with runners on base; Kilome has fallen down significantly on the prospect chart with his command being his biggest issue.

Jacob Waguespack, 24, Signed as a free agent in 2015; 16 games (10 starts) between Lehigh Valley and Reading; 55.2IP 62H 26BB 57K; 1.58WHIP; 4.2BB/9,2K per 9; .279 vs LHH, .272 vs RHH, .339 opp avg with runners on base; Waguespack had been a spot starter and long innings guy until recently settling into the Reading rotation.

Connor Seabold, 22, Phils 3rd round pick in 2017; 13 starts between CLearwater and Reading; 4-5 with a 4.22ERA; 74.2IP 65H 16BB 71K; 1.08WHIP; 1.9BB/8.6K per 9; .236 vs LHH, .222 vs RHH, .274 opp avg with runners on base; Seabold was just recently promoted and made his first AA start which was bumpy.  That said, he has plenty of talent and projects as a 4-5 starter.

Elneiry Garcia, 23, SIgned as a free agent in 2012; 10 games (9 starts); 0-6 with a 6.38ERA; 42.1IP 60H 21BB 29K; 1.91WHIP; 4.5BB/6.2K per 9; .429 vs LHH, .288 vs RHH, .376 opp avg with runners on base; Has been just awful and is currently on the DL.

Clearwater Threshers Recap – 7/1/2018

Sorry about yesterday’s Recap.  I forgot to hit Publish.  It was very brief any way, as I came home from the stadium unwell.  I couldn’t sit too long at the keyboard, but totally for got to hit the Publish button before retiring.  I’ve got the same problem tonight, but I’ll try to go into a little depth.  I’ll return to an expanded recap as soon as possible.
