Around the System–Relief Pitching; Lehigh Valley and Reading
Lehigh Valley
Pedro Beato, 31, Re-Signed as a free agent in 2018; 40 games, 5-2 with a 3.74ERA; 22SV; 43.1IP 40H 13BB 41K; 1.22WHIP; 2.7BB/8.5K per 9; .260 vs LHH, .231 vs RHH, .278 opp avg last 28 days; Decent year for Beato thus far but not what he was last season.
Tom Windle, 26, Acquired from Dodgers in 2015; 31 games, 7-3 with a 3.44ERA; 3SV; 36.2IP 28H 14BB 37K; 1.14WHIP; 3.4BB/9.1K per 9; .196 vs LHH, .213 vs RHH, .195 opp avg last 28 days; Rough start but has come around nicely this season. While his numbers are very good, I am still not sold on Windle.
Zac Curtis, 26, Acquired from Seattle in 2017; 25 games with Lehigh Valley, 2-2, 2.94ERA; 33.2IP 20H 13BB 40K; 0.98WHIP; 3.5BB/10.7K per 9; .137 vs LHH, .202 vs RHH, .179 with runners on base; Curtis has thrown very well and deserves to be in the Phillies bullpen in my opinion. His control holds him back.
Hoby Milner, 27, Phils 7th round pick in 2012; 25 games, 0-0 with a 2.39ERA; 26.1IP 21H 14BB 28K; 1.32WHIP; 4.8BB/9.6K per 9; .236 vs LHH, .226 vs RHH, .273 opp avg last 30 days; Milner has thrown well for Lehigh Valley and not so well for the Phillies in multiple chances this season.
Braondon Leibrandt, 25, Phils 6th round pick in 2014; 20 games (6 starts); 4-1 with a 1.42 ERA: 50.2IP 34H 10BB 32K; 0.86WHIP; 1.8BB/5.7K per 9; Leibrandt has been excellent in whichever role he has been asked to fill but is currently on the DL and remains injury plagued.
Ranfi Casimiro, 25, SIgned as a free agent in 2010; 24 games between Reading and Lehigh Valley; 6-2 with a 5.17ERA; 38.1IP 42H 23BB 31K; 1.69WHIP; 5.4BB/7.3K per 9; .344 vs LHH, .244 vs RHH, .278 opp avg last 28 days; Casimiro has been largely ineffective all year and is now being used primarily as an innings eater.
Tyler Gilbert, 24, Phils 6th round pick in 2015; 28 games, 4-1 with a 3.48ERA between Reading and Lehigh Valley; 41.1IP 31H 10BB 47K; 0.99WHIP; 2.2BB/10.2K per 9; .172 vs LHH, .219 vs RHH, .148 opp avg last 28 days; Gilbert has been very impressive moving up from AA about wo weeks ago. Likely to be added to the 40 man this off season.
Hector Neris, 29, Signed as a free agent in 2009; Has thrown in 5 games for Lehigh Valley (5IP), allowing 3 hits and 2 walks, no ER and striking out 8; Neris continues to work to regain his confidence and his splitter while in Allentown.
Reading
Edgar Garcia, 21, Signed as a free agent in 2013; 32 games, 6-2 with a 2.89ERA; 6SV; 43.2IP 32H 20BB 36K; 1.19WHIP; 4.1BB/9.5K per 9; .205 vs LHH, .193 vs RHH, .302 opp avg last 28 days; Garcia was absolutely lights out through the first two months of the season but had a very rough June, with a 7.54ERA since June 1.
Seth McGarry, 24, Acquired from Pittsburgh in 2017; 29 games, 1-2 with a 3.51ERA; 3SV; 41IP 32H 23BB 38K; 1.34WHIP; 5.0BB/8.3K per 9; .187 vs LHH, .254 vs RHH, .195 opp avg last 28 days; McGarry has been solid but gets hurt often by walks.
Luke Leftwich, 24, Phils 7th round pick in 2015; 28 games, 0-3 with a 3.86ERA; 3SV; 35IP 32H 15BB 38K; 1.34WHIP; 3.9BB/9.8K per 9; .275 vs LHH, .206 vs RHH; .318 opp avg last 28 days; Another pitcher who started very strong but has struggled over the last 6 weeks (5.79ERA).
Alexis Rivero, 23, Signed as a free agent in 2012; 27 games between CLearwater and Reading, 3-1 with a4.68ERA; 3 SV; 42.1IP 39H 18BB 26K; 1.34WHIP; 3.8BB/5.5K per 9; .247 vs LHH, .247 vs RHH; Rough beginning on the year for Rivero but continued improvement and a 3.15ERA since June 1.
Jeff Singer, 24, Re-Signed as a free agent in 2018; 26 games between CW and Reading; 0-4 with a 2.52ERA: 9SV; 35.2IP 26H 14BB 37K; 1.12WHIP; 3.5BB/9.3K per 9; .267 vs LHH, .175 vs RHH; .196 opp avg last month; Taking away his abysmal April, Singer has a 1.11ERA over the last two plus months. Throwing very well.
Trevor Bettencourt, 24, Phils 25th round pick in 2016; 11games, 1-0 with a 3.18ERA; 1.35WHIP; 3.8BB/9.5K per 9; Bettencourt has now been on the DL for two plus months. Had been pitching well the first month of the season after spending time in the AFL.
Josh Tols, 28, SIgned as a free agent in 2018; 12 games between Clearwater and Reading; 1-0 with a 1.96ERA; 18.1IP 3H 12BB 28K; 0.82WHIP; 5.9BB/13.7K; Tols is a 5’7 enigma who seemingly cant be hit, walks alot of batters and strikes out those he doesnt walk. I anticipate the opposition catching up.
Aaron Brown, Phils 3rd round pick in 2014 draft; 31 games between CLearwater and Reading; 3-4 with a 5.03ERA; 4SV; 39.1IP 49H 18BB 43K; 1.70WHIP; 4.1BB/9.8K per 9; .419 vs LHH, .235 vs RHH. Brown was promoted out of necessity to Reading because of the numbers game and has been largely ineffective all season.
