Recap: It’s been a while since I last managed to cobble one of these together, so this report will cover all of July and the first week of August. The Threshers have gone 19-15 over that stretch, and currently sit 1 game behind the division-leading Tampa Yankees at 22-20. Including the first half, Clearwater is 61-50, the second-best mark in the FSL. In personnel moves since the last update, David Buchanon was promoted from Lakewood, Tyson Gillies and Leandro Castro still haven’t played, and Jarred Cosart and Jonathan Singleton have moved on.

First Person Scouting Report – Lehigh Valley 5 August 2011
Evan, a loyal reader, provided me with a first person report from Friday’s LHV/Durham Bulls game. Here it is, and thanks to Evan
PITCHING: RHP Nate Bump opposed RHP Ryan Reid. Bump went 5.0 innings he pitched well, he had zero strikeouts two walks and six hits allowed. Nate let up two runs (all earned) in a two-run bottom of the third on a DH Stephen Vogt double to left. The Vogt double was a sinking line drive that Domonic Brown should have fielded on a hop, Brown made a last second dive and missed the ball by about three feet. Dom had a rough game in left, he misplayed three balls off of the 30 foot high wall in left. Before the game during batting practice roving coach Steve Henderson was working with Brown in left, it shouldn’t be problem with him in left in 2012. Back to pitching Bump topped out a 93 MPH with LHP Joe Savery following in relief, Joe allowed a infield base hit to 3B Daniel Mayora, Mayora moved to second on a groundout. Mayora stole third on the next pitch and ended up scoring on a throwing error from Catcher Dane Sardinha. Joe surrendered one unearned run and finished the inning with a strikeout. BIG Mike Zagurski (225 lbs. on a good day) followed Savery, Mike threw a perfect seventh inning and followed it up by striking out 1B Dan Johnson to record the first out of the eighth. Aaron Heilman finished the eighth, Heilman had a good changeup and slider that he used with two strikes, the pitches varied from 78-84 MPH. Phillippe Aumont was impressive in the ninth, he threw a 1 hit inning for his second save. Aumont hit 96 MPH with his fastball and consistently hit 78 MPH with his breaking ball. Aumont got two fly outs to centerfield before allowing a SS Reid Brignac single followed by a CF John Matulia K.

Hot or Not
A look back at the one week time period ending last August 4th. Talking points include Tyler CLoyd’s consistency, Trevor May racking up the k’s once again, Brody Colvin spending another week on the cold list, Schwim, a nice week for young OF’s (Alvarez/Santana/Altherr), and a rough week for the newly signed Tyler Greene. Note: A few pitchers appear on two lists, because of their ever changing roles.
Starting Pitchers, Hot: Josh Warner (6IP 4H 0ER 2BB 5K); Garrett Claypool (6IP 5H 0ER 2BB 5): Tyler Cloyd (12IP 9H 1ER 2BB 12K)Trevor May (12.1IP 6H 3ER 6BB 18K); Lino Martinez (6IP 3H 1ER 2BB 7K); Austin Hyatt (6IP 3H 1ER 0BB 12): Austin Wright (6IP 6H 1ER 1BB 5K);Bryan Morgado (4IP 4H 0ER 1BB 5K); Adam Morgan (10.2IP 9H 3ER 4BB 6K). First Person Scouting Report: Williamsport 3 August 2011
Another report from NYPhilsmaniac, who has done an outstanding job of providing us first hand accounts this summer. This report comes from yesterday’s Williamsport game. Thanks again Dave.
PITCHING:
ADAM MORGAN started. I came away impressed even though his line didn’t look good. He is a hard-throwing lefty (or so it appeared to me since there was no radar gun in Brooklyn) who mixes his pitches well. I would make a guess that he was hitting 91-92 but would love to know what he tops out at (jslasher can you help me out here?). Morgan cruised through the 1st inning with 2 lazy flies to CF and a K. In the second inning after retiring the first batter on a liner to right, he gave up an infield single and then a smashed triple. He struck out the next batter on a 3-2 curve but then gave a single that hit the LF wall on the fly. From there he settled down and threw a hitless 3rd and 4th (there was a BB in the 3rd). In the 5th, he seemed to tire and after getting the first two out, he gave up a 2B (that was hit the other way over the 1B head into the corner), another IF single and a walk on a 3-2 pitch. That was the end of his day. They hit probably 3 hard shots off him in almost 5 innings. He definitely was not economical with his pitches running a number of deep counts. So with the bases loaded and two outs, in comes another lefty…
