Just an awful weekend for Lehigh Valley who were swept by Columbus. The ‘Pigs continue on the road for a four game series against Toledo.
Friday–Despite 2 homers and 6 RBI’s from Andy Tracy, Lehigh Valley lost again to Columbus, this time 11-7 on Friday evening. ‘Pigs starter Brandon Duckworth (1-1) was hit hard, lasting only three innings having given up 4 runs on five hits. He walked three as well. John Mayberry’s 8th homer of the year in the first inning gave Lehigh Valley the early lead against Carlos Carrasco, but the wheels then fell off, and fell off hard. A two run homer in the 6th by Tracy and a Grand Slam in the 7th made it close, but another implosion by reliever Ehren Wasserman put the game out of reach for the ‘Pigs. In addition to Tracy’s big day, John Mayberry had two hits, Cody Ransom was 3-5, and Brian Bocock added two hits as well.
Saturday–A leadoff homer by Rich Thompson and a two run blast by the very hot Andy Tracy (6) were wasted in the 7-5 Lehigh Valley loss to Columbus, their third loss in a row. Starter Nate Bump (4-3) was roughed up for the second straight outing giving up 6 runs in five innings of work. Neil Sellers was 2-4 with a double and an RBI for the ‘Pigs.
Sunday–Another day another one run loss for Lehigh Valley, this time 4-3 in eleven innings with Columbus sweeping the four game series. Depsite a sixth consecutive “quality start” from Joe Savery (6IP 6H 3ER 4BB 1K), the ‘Pigs couldnt do much to overcome the three run second inning given up by Savery en route to the loss. Cody Ransom accounted for all of the Lehigh Valley scoring with a first inning sac fly and a 6th inning two run homer, his 11th. ‘Pigs relievers pitched four scoreless innings, before Ryan Vogelsong (1-2) gave up the game winning single in the 11th. Rich Thompson, Chris Duffy, and Neil Sellers all had two hits for the ‘Pigs.
–Lehigh Valley scored first in each game of the four game series against COlumbus and lost every game.
–Lehigh Valley is 1-6 in extra innings and 5-16 in one run games. They are currently 13 games under .500, which is their worst record this year, and in fact, their worst record since the end of the 2008 season.
–The six RBI’s by Andy Tracy on Friday evening were an All Time Iron Pigs record.
—Mike Zagurski has not allowed a run in his last 11 appearances, spanning 13.1 innings. He has struck out 17 in that time frame, and still leads IL relievers in K/9.
—Neil Sellers has hit safely in 7 of his last 8 games (.481).
–OF DeWayne Wise has now missed a full week with ankle problems without being placed on the DL. The ‘Pigs have been playing one hitter short the entire week.
