  1. Dom Brown is the only one hitting for Reading right now. When do you see him getting the call to AAA? and who will replace Gillies on the roster?

  2. Reading OF’s- I would say Brown would, if he was advanced to AAA, it would be either after the June draft or after the AA All-Star game. Gillies on the DL might require a replacement but they still have 4 OF’s plus others who could move to OF at times. But even if Brown is promoted now, and Gillies is replaced, they would have 3 OF’s with Berry CF capable, so they could recall just one OF. I would say Susdorf would be 1st in line, with Derrick Mitchell and D’Arby Myers as possibilities , though they may want to hold Myers in Clearwater if they think he has some promise.

On another Reading roster thing, there are some unsubstantiated rumors on another thread on here, that Rizzotti will go to 1B at AA, with Darin Ruf going to A(A) and Jon Singleton going to Lakewood from XST.

  3. I always look forward to seeing what Santana did, but speaking of back to “square one”-3 k’s in 4 AB’s, and below the Mendoza line…I know its early, but he his struggling…

  4. When is Zach Collier due back? Is he rehabbing in XST or just waiting for an opening somewhere?

  5. Mathieson pitched two nice (from the looks of the boxscore) innings. I thought there were concerns about him going multiple innings, or was that just at first?

  6. Can someone explain this to me? Cody Overbeck is about to turn 24, is hitting .353 in Clearwater with 9 hrs and 26 rbi in 116 ABs. He plays 3B, a position that is weak in the Phillies organization. But they leave him where he is. Instead they move up Matt Rizzotti, 24, who has been the DH, a position that does not exist on the Phillies, who is batting a similar .352, but with only one home run and 10 rbis in 108 ABs. The rumor is that he will now play first base. However, his power numbers suggest that he should play shortstop! Wouldn’t you expect Overbeck to be moved up instead?

  7. Congrats to Matt on the promotion! Good luck. Also exciting to hear Singleton is on his way to Lakewood, good luck to him too. If Ruf is the third move, then bully for him.

Did Hewitt get hurt? He was DH, maybe pulled a hammy running to first?

Let’s have some props for DeFratus too, he’s pitched very well out of the bullpen this year.

  8. Yes, the move was Rizzotti to Reading, replacing Gillies on the DL. Ruf goes to Clearwater, and Jon Singleton goes to Lakewood.

If Collier is not still currently injured , that would mean Singleton was advanced to Lakewood ahead of him. That would settle a mini-controversy on here awhile back. Some were righter than others. If Collier is still injured that might be developing into an undesirable situation.

When was Hewitt mostly a DH? That has only been very recently after he had fallen in the OF chasing an extra base hit.
After that he DH’ed for awhile and began to resume a more frequent Strike Out rate.

Rizzotti to Reading was a needed move in order to work Singleton into a more desirable place for development, and secondarily for Ruf also.

  9. SIFPA,

My guess was the move of Ruf was to make room for Singleton to play 1b in Lakewood.

If you’re a 24-year-old DH in low-A ball you are probably not getting moved because the organization suddenly thinks you’ve become a prospect…

  10. Scott Profrock stated earlier in the week in philly.com that Mathieson is working to get more bite on his slider. When he’s ready … he’s ready.

  11. yeah, i read that the higher ups want to see Mathieson’s slider become an out pitch…i vaguely remember his fastball being very straight back in 06…but he was starting then, so only having to face a few batters each game should just make his overal stuff that much better….if lidge goes on the DL I would really like to see SM come up….also bastardo has been pitching well in AAA, and with romero struggling who knows how much longer than staff will wait for him to return to his 07-08 form.

  12. Mayberry is hitting better, but Golson is in the majors with the Yankees; 1 for 4 so far. It is probably fallout from the injury to Granderson

  13. SIFPA, it is Granderson fallout. The Yankees have been running through their roster like lunatics the last week.

  14. Yes! A 9 inning complete game with 8 swinging strike outs for Jesus Sanchez. He must have kept his pitch count to around 100 to go the full 9.

  15. Everybody knew What, before? Not if you go by the comments on this section, they did not know much. Besides the recounting of the moves was the preliminary background information towards pointing out that Singleton was promoted to Lakewood prior to Coller just like was predicted on here, before a controversy was fanned by the pack on here. Now the word comes down that Collier will be out until MID-JUNE with a quad injury (sore thigh) which would put him on course to start out in Williamsport just as was precicted also. That make you laugh also?

Whoever implied Ruf was DH, is factually incorrect. He may have played a couple of games there, due to resting of players.
But Ruf played most all games at 1B, and is known as a very good fielder.
