Sell … Sell … SELL!!! Ah, sell whom? Sell what? I don’t know that we have anyone in whom a contender would be interested, whom we would also want to deal. Maybe, the Phillies remain buyers, looking forward to the 2020 season. Perhaps such additions add a pulse to this team and they catch the added benefit of contending into September. Former Phillies’ pitcher, Roy Halladay, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown on Sunday. I spoke with Roy briefly at a bingo fund raiser for his boys’ little league organization that his wife Brandy had organized with several other mothers of participating youngsters. It was the only time I ever spoke with Roy. Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of July 22nd

The Phillies came out of the All Star break and dropped back-to-back games to the Nationals. They saved face with Maikel Franco’s walk off HR in Sunday’s game, but probably little else. Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of July 15th

The Phillies limp into the All Star break in third place 6.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves. They started the week with a victory in Atlanta, but then got blown out of the next 2 games. They rallied somewhat winning 2 out of 3 in New York.
The Phillies will complete a 26-game stretch against division opponents the first series after the break. So far, they are 9-13 with a rain out in the first 23 games of the stretch. Not the kind of division record that wins divisions. Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of July 8th

The 39-38 Phillies went 5-2 last week. They swept the Mets but then lost 2 of 3 to the Marlins. And, they had to come back from behind in all 4 Mets game. Yeah, it’s great that they were able to rally back, but why are they falling behind like that to the Mets? At home? And then blowing a 6-1 lead in Miami. Not great outcomes as I see it. The Phillies were 39-32, .549) last Sunday. They are now 39-38, .506 after a pair of series sweeps. I’ve got nothing else. Let your bashing begin.
This is the Phuture Phillies Open Discussion for Phillies and other baseball topics. Still don’t want to hear about any mythical Trout trades. Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of June 24, 2019

The Phillies (39-32, .549) sunk to a 2-4 week. They dropped series to two teams that have winning records. They dropped an embarrassing series to the team they will have to beat out for the division title. And, they dropped a series to one of the teams they will likely compete with for a wild card berth. All in all, not a good week. Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of June 17, 2019

The Phillies (37-28, .569) rebounded with a 4-2 week. They won both series 2 games to one, went 2-4 last week. They opened with two wins against 2 of the weaker teams outside their division, San Diego and Cincinnati. Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of June 10, 2019

The Phillies went 4-3 on the road last week. They split in Chicago (when they could have gone 3-1) and won 2 of 3 from Milwaukee. They won both series openers.
The Phils begin another tough stretch with a 3-game series against the Cardinals at home before beginning a 7-game west coast trip that includes 4 games in Los Angeles and 3 games in San Diego.
