Kelly Dugan Returns, Again; June 13, 2015

Even though the Threshers played a double header against the Brevard County Manatees, the big story was the return of Kelly Dugan.  He played right field in the first game and was the DH in the night cap.  He went a combined 2-7 with a BB, K, and his first HR of the season.  He hit the ball hard most at bats.  The original plan was for Dugan to play the outfield Friday and Saturday, DH on Sunday, then take stock.  Friday’s rain derailed that plan.  I expect that he’ll play the outfield Sunday.  He could return to Reading not long after that.  He looks ready.

The Threshers lost the opener.  Continue reading Kelly Dugan Returns, Again; June 13, 2015 →

Thoughts on the first 10 rounds of the draft

Hello, its me. I apologize for not writing up a final draft prep piece on Sunday, life sort of got in the way. I did want to pop back in and write up some thoughts on the first two days of the draft. This is not going to rival the draft recaps I wrote up for 5 years, where I spent waaaay too much time dissecting draft picks and potential signability concerns, but I do have some thoughts, so I figured I’d share them with the masses, in case you were interested to see what I thought.

Around the System, RP, Clearwater and Lakewood

Certainly several who are capable of moving up sometime very soon.  At the top of the list:  Ramos and Forsythe at Clearwater as well as DeNato, Hockenberry and Rivero at Lakewood

Open Discussion: Week of June 8th

Here’s an open discussion thread so the minor league posts don’t get cluttered with Phillies’ talk and other topics.

The First Year Player Draft starts Monday night.  There will be separate threads for that.

Some random stuff to light a fire –

  • Freddy Galvis got a hit today to end an 0-31 drought.
  • Maikel Franco’s 6 HR are enough to be second on the team.
  • Chase Utley is back under .200.
  • Papelbon is still earning his salary.
  • With Seve Gonzalez back to LHV, who’s #5?
  • Or, with an off day on the 11th, they just don’t need him until the 16th?
  • And since the draft is tomorrow, there’s this.  The Phillies are one of 3 teams with sub-.400 winning percentages – Oakland .390; Philadelphia .379; and Milwaukee .351

Box Score Recap – 6/7/2015

Lehigh Valley (21-37) lost to the Indianapolis Indians, 5-2.  Chris Leroux allowed 2 runs (1 unearned) on 5 hits and 2 walks in 5.0 innings.  The bullpen allowed 3 more runs over the next four innings, and rendered 2 late runs irrelevant.  Brian Bogusevic went 1-1 as a pinch hitter and drove in the first run.  Chris McGuinness hit a solo HR in the ninth.  Lino and Brown each went 1-4.  Joely Rodriguez (2-5, 5.76) pitches Monday.
