Lehigh Valley Report

After an incredible 24-5 May, the ‘Pigs opened June with a 5-0 loss to Indianapolis last night, making them 36-17 on the year, and five games in front of second place Scranton in the Northern Division of the International League.  The ‘Pigs are in Louisville this weekend before returning home for a six game home stand next week against Buffalo and Scranton.

News and Notes: With their 6-0 win on Wednesday, the ‘Pigs recorded their IL leading 8th shutout of the season.

–Pitcher Tom Eshelman was named IL Player of the month after his CG shutout on Wednesday against Indianapolis.  Since April 18th, Eshelman is 6-0 with a 1.87ERA and an outstanding 0.82WHIP.

–Lehigh Valley leads the International League in both runs and homeruns.

–OF Dylan Cozens had his modest 6 game hitting streak snapped last night, however is hitting .379 over the last 7 games to go along with 5RS and 7RBI.

–After reaching base safely multiple times in five straight games, JP Crawford had that streak snapped last night with an 0-4.  His average currently sits at .200 after an awful first 6 weeks of the season.  Over the last 16 games, Crawford is hitting .290. Continue reading Lehigh Valley Report

Box Score Recap – 6/1/2017

Lehigh Valley was shut out as Hoby Milner’s 19.1 scoreless inning streak came to an end.

Reading pounded out a win with 5 HR including Scott Kingery’s 17th.

Clearwater took over first place in the division behind Wilson Garcia’s grand slam.

Box Score Recap – 5/31/2017

Lehigh Valley won as Tom Eshelman pitched a complete game shutout.

Reading won 2 games behind Tyler Viza’s shutout bolstered by 3 HR in the first; and Andrew Pullin’s walk off HR in the 13th inning in the second.

Clearwater rallied to win, Drew Stankiewicz hit a two-out, two-run, go-ahead home run.

Box Score Recap – 5/30/2017

Lehigh Valley scored a run in five different innings but fell short.  Cameron Perkins was proficient at the top of the order again.

Reading lost in 11 innings on a 2-run HR served up by Miguel Nunez.

Clearwater lost in regulation.  Randolph had 2 more hits.

Lakewood scored in 6 different innings and won behind Ranger Suarez.  Trevor Bettencourt struck out 5 in 1.2 innings.  Mickey Moniak homered.

Lehigh Valley won again, Mark Appel pitched five shutout innings.

Reading ended its losing streak with a victory.  Scott Kingery homered and Colton Murray struck out five in 2.2 innings of relief.

Lakewood pounded out 11 runs and 14 hits in a win.  Henri Lartigue hit his first HR.

Open Discussion: Week of May 29th

The Phillies completed their 7-game home stand with 2 wins.  They have the worst record in baseball.  They are 17-31 with a .354 winning percentage.

They managed to win a game against Colorado without scoring more than 2 runs in any of the four games.  They scored 10 runs in 3 games against the Reds and lost two of them.

In an unusual turn of events, starters suffered all 5 losses, relievers earned the 2 victories.

Box Score Recap – 5/28/2017

Lehigh Valley cruised to another  lop-sided victory, 14-2 behind 2 Nick Williams home runs.

Reading lost its 9th consecutive game, 5-4.

Clearwater and Franklyn Kilome shut out the St. Lucie Mets.

Lakewood and Nick Fanti beat Delmarva.  Mickey Moniak was back in the line up.

Lehigh Valley cruised to a lop-sided victory, 13-1 behind Ben Lively and 5 home runs.

Reading lost its 8th consecutive game, 4-1.  Scott Kingery hit his 15th home run.

Clearwater saw the lead seesaw back and forth late before losing in ten innings..

Lakewood scored only one run in a loss.

Updates on injuries to Mickey Moniak and Jhailyn Ortiz.
