Adonis Medina was your selection as the #2 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.
Medina received 88 of the 249 votes cast (35.34%). The next four positions were tightly contested among Adam Haseley (44 votes, 17.67%), Alec Bohm (36 votes, 14.46%), Spencer Howard (29 votes, 11.65%), and Luis Garcia (26 votes, 10.44%). This is the 2019 Reader Top 30 poll for the number two prospect in the Phillies organization.
Sixto Sanchez was the top pick for the second straight year. The write up for the top pick is covered in a separate post (link).
As I mentioned in the first poll, this should take us through early February. A week or so later, on February 12th or 13th, pitchers and catchers will report. They’ll have their first work out the following day, signalling the start of spring training. The first full squad work out is just a couple days later. The Phillies’ Grapefruit League season begins on the 22nd.
I hope to publish five or six polls each week on a schedule that will allow me to conclude this process before spring training starts. I decided to include all known eligible players in the early polls. This ballot ncludes MLB’s top 30 prospects, the 2018 Phuture Phillies Post Season Top 30, and players on the 40-Man Roster who still have rookie eligibility.
There will be no players added until I close and tabulate the currently running poll that will identify the players you think should be added (link).
The players in the poll are listed alphabetically.
If you want to suggest a player you think I may have overlooked, you can make the request among the Comments section or e-mail prospectpoll@yahoo.com using the Subject Line – Add Prospect, but since I am going through a polling process to identify additional prospects, I will probably not consider such requests. And, as last year, the Other option (a write-in vote) will not be used.
Additional notes –
I’m having a dental issue that may affect the early poll schedule.
I’m seeing fewer ballots cast than last year. The first poll last year drew over 340 votes.
Balloting for the poll for additional prospects came to a sudden halt. It appears once the discussion turned to a poster’s top 30, there was little interest in casting further ballots. Maybe it’s just a coincidence.
I’ve turned off comments on the actual polling post.
Sixto Sanchez was our selection as the #1 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.
Sanchez repeats as the top prospect after former Phillie J.P. Crawford reigned as the top prospect for three years (2015-17). Sanchez was an overwhelming selection. He received 140 of the 182 votes cast (76.92%). Adam Haseley was second with 9 votes (4.95%) and Adonis Medina finished third with 8 votes (4.4%).
Early next month, the Phillies will host nine players to their prospect seminar in Philadelphia.
Players will begin reporting to the Complex in Clearwater by the middle of the month. Some will take part in a job program with the city of Clearwater that allows them enough time to work out at the Complex. Others will begin reporting on their own dime. Happy New Year! The Hot Stove Season cooled off over the holidays. Unfortunately, that didn’t stop the torrent of rumors created to generate online clicks. There was very little activity. None by the Phillies. Our anxiety continues into another week. Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of December 31, 2018→

Merry Christmas! The Phillies signed a handful of minor leaguers and began extending invitations to spring training.
This week, the Phillies signed six players for their Lehigh Valley affiliate. One is C Matt McBride who played for the IronPigs last season. The others are LHP Jeremy Bleich, C Rob Brantly, INF Phil Gosselin, RHP Josh Martin, and INF Gregorio Petit. All but Martin have MLB service time. Although, Bleich has just 25 days of service time, the other five have one year or more. Continue reading Minor League Discussion: Week of December 24, 2018→
Merry Christmas! The Hot Stove Season continues. There was a flurry of activity as we approach the holiday week. The Phillies signed a handful of minor league free agents, but nothing happened that would alleviate the anxiety of most of the people following the Phillies’ off season. The Rule 5 Draft was the last major key date for the minor leagues prior to the start of spring training. Following the draft, the Phillies began their roster bookkeeping moves, placing many of the players they stashed on the Lehigh Valley roster back on rosters at lower levels. These moves do not mean that these players will start at these levels, but they are a good indicator of which group they will be in at the start of spring training.
