Here’s a thread to talk about the 2015 First Year Player Draft. It won’t actually occur until 7:00 pm tonight. But this will provide a place for any draft discussions. I’ll post a new one each day, and post a tracker when the draft is complete.

Open Discussion: Week of June 8th
Here’s an open discussion thread so the minor league posts don’t get cluttered with Phillies’ talk and other topics.
The First Year Player Draft starts Monday night. There will be separate threads for that.
Some random stuff to light a fire –
- Freddy Galvis got a hit today to end an 0-31 drought.
- Maikel Franco’s 6 HR are enough to be second on the team.
- Chase Utley is back under .200.
- Papelbon is still earning his salary.
- With Seve Gonzalez back to LHV, who’s #5?
- Or, with an off day on the 11th, they just don’t need him until the 16th?
- And since the draft is tomorrow, there’s this. The Phillies are one of 3 teams with sub-.400 winning percentages – Oakland .390; Philadelphia .379; and Milwaukee .351

Lehigh Valley (21-37) lost to the Indianapolis Indians, 5-2. Chris Leroux allowed 2 runs (1 unearned) on 5 hits and 2 walks in 5.0 innings. The bullpen allowed 3 more runs over the next four innings, and rendered 2 late runs irrelevant. Brian Bogusevic went 1-1 as a pinch hitter and drove in the first run. Chris McGuinness hit a solo HR in the ninth. Lino and Brown each went 1-4. Joely Rodriguez (2-5, 5.76) pitches Monday. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 6/7/2015

Crawford went 1-4. Cam Perkins went 2-3 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Aaron Altherr went 1-4 with a HR and 2 RBI. Roman Quinn went 0-5 and commited a run-permitting error. Gustavo Pierre went 0-4 with 2 RBI, but commited an error that prevented the end of what became a 4-run inning. Nefi Ogando inherited a 7-6 lead but couldn’t hold the win for Colton Murray. Zach Eflin (4-4, 3.38) pitches tomorrow. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 6/5/2015

Got to the Complex for the game today and found that they started early again. Ethan Martin had plodded through the first three innings. Mid 80s, just like his last outing. Meh.
Franklyn Kilome pitched the middle four innings. He’s still in the mid 90s. Definitely looks like he’s working on secondary pitches and keeping his FB down. Threw a few ugly curves like he did last outing, but snapped off several nice ones. Got a swinging K with one. Walked three, but the Pirates only threatened once – two leadoff walks and a sac put runners in scoring position but the “breaking ball” K and a ground out ended the inning. Lehigh Valley (20-34) dropped both games of their double header with the Rochester Red Wings. Joely Rodriguez gave up 6 runs in 4.2 innings on 9 hits and 2 walks on the way to a 7-4 loss in game one. Dom Brown went 2-4 with an RBI and Gabriel Lino went 1-3 with an RBI in his IronPigs’ debut. The ‘Pigs came back to tie the game in the fourth, but Rodriguez failed to produce a shutdown inning and absorbed his fifth loss. Phillippe Aumont went 6.0 innings in the second game, giving up 3 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks. He had a lead but a 2-run home run in the fourth inning proved to be too much for the IronPigs to overcome. Brown went 1-4 with an RBI. Lino DNP. Adam Morgan (0-5, 5.33) pitches tomorrow. The One with the Grand Slam that was Only a Single; June 2, 2015
Okay, since I used a “Friends”-like title as a hook for this report, I’ll explain that story before giving the full game report for what turned out to be an exciting game.
Trailing 3-0 in the top of the eighth inning, the Dunedin Blue Jays loaded the bases with three singles and nobody out – their second, third, and fourth hits of the game. Threshers starter, Mark Leiter who had been very effective all night, then allowed a high fly ball to left field off the bat of Christian Lopes. Left fielder, Dylan Cozens retreated to the wall in front of the bullpens and appeared to have a bead on the ball all the way. He timed his jump at the wall, and looked like he might have brought the ball back. The reaction of the Jays bullpen quickly dispelled that thought as the ball landed in their bullpen. Lehigh Valley (20-32) – no game scheduled. Joely Rodriguez (2-4, 5.27) pitches tomorrow.
Reading (27-23) lost to the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 6-3. Zach Eflin pitched well but gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and 4 walks over 7.0 innings. He shut the Squirrels out for 6.0 innings on 1 hit. Unfortunately, a walk and home run put the Phils behind in the seventh. The offense scored single runs in the final three innings, but Colton Murray had come on in relief to make sure that 3 runs wouldn’t be enough, and Eflin got his fourth loss. Roman Quinn and J.P.Crawford each had 2 hits. Brock Stassi had the Phils only RBI, his 41st. Quinn was caught stealing twice, both on pickoffs. Tom Windle (1-3, 4.53) pitches tomorrow.
