We”ll continue the “Best of” series of polls with the second of the final three polls, your selection as the best right-handed starters in the organization.
We only have 30 righties who started games last season. You can select up to seven pitchers on your ballot. This will allow us to establish what kind of depth we think we have in the organization. Continue reading 2017 Phuture Phillies Right-Handed Starting Pitchers Poll
We”ll continue the “Best of” series of polls with the first of the final three polls, your selection as the best left-handed starters in the organization.
We only have 14 lefties who started games last season. You can select up to five pitchers on your ballot. This will allow us to establish what kind of depth we think we have in the organization. Continue reading 2017 Phuture Phillies Left-Handed Starting Pitchers Poll
The Phillies closed out the season with an 11-0 pasting of the hated New York Mets. They posted a 4-2 record over the final week with series wins over the equally hated Washington National and the Mets. The Phillies finished with a 66-96 record and a .407 PCT. They posted a 71-91 record in 2016, but showed promise after the All Star break this year when the went 37-38 after the infusion of several of their young prospects – Nick Williams, Jorge Alfaro, Rhys Hoskins, and J.P. Crawford and some improved second-half pitching from guys like Victor Arano, Jake Thompson, Ben Lively, Adam Morgan, and Hoby Milner. Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of October 1st
Workouts continued this week at the Paul Owens Training Facility at the Carpenter Complex, the official name for the facility. Now you see why I and others always refer to it as the Carpenter Complex or just the Complex.
I was on hand on Wednesday and Thursday. The workouts were similar to those I wrote about on Tuesday. Variations included lateral movement and balls in the sun for the outfielders, bunt defense and the wheel play for PFPs, and rundowns and repetitive infield drills with some guys seeing time at different positions for the infielders. Phillies manager Pete Mackanin will not return as the manager in 2018. Earlier this year, he had signed an extension thru the ’18 season. Mackanin signed a new contract and will return as a special assistant to the GM. Here is Jim Salisbury’s report.
IMO, this is an interesting development. It may signal that the organization feels that they are closer to competing for a playoff spot than when they extended Mackanin. It will also be be interesting to see who the Phillies target as a replacement.
Here is Saisbury’s article on possible replacements.
We”ll continue the “Best of” series of polls with your selection as the best corner outfielders in the system.
Since this will cover two positions (left anfd right), I have allowed a maximum of five answers for each ballot. This will allow us to establish what kind of depth we have in the organization. Continue reading 2017 Phuture Phillies Top Corner Outfielders Poll
After a one week delay due to Hurricane Irma, the Phillies’ Instructional program is underway. Players started arriving in Clearwater on Sunday. They went through their indoctrination meetings on Monday. Tuesday morning, they took to the fields at the Carpenter Complex for drills and BP. Afterwards, they went inside around 12:30 for lunch. The coaches milled about on Ashburn Field, and this tweaked my curiosity. Continue reading 2017 Instructs Schedule and Roster, et al
We”ll continue the “Best of” series of polls with your selection as the best center fielder in the system. This should be an interesting vote. There are high draft picks, top prospects, and some darn good defensive fielders in this group. Continue reading 2017 Phuture Phillies Top Center Fielder Poll
Here’s another article submitted by one our readers. As always, the opinions stated in a submitted article are not those of the staff here at Phuture Phillies. I expect that the opinion stated in the article could ignite a spirited debate. But, keep in mind that it is NOT a defense of the unpopular GM. Continue reading Was It Amaro, or Was It Us?
We”ll continue the “Best of” series of polls with your selection as the best third baseman in the system. This should be a more interesting vote. There is no Hoskins, Kingery, or Crawford to monopolize votes. Not having a clear cut, top prospect is a little worrisome with Maikel Franco’s struggles this season. I hate to pin our hopes on a trade that is unlikely to happen or the the free agent class after the 2018 season. Continue reading 2017 Phuture Phillies Top Third Baseman Poll
