Lehigh Valley (34-41) game one was suspended when Daniel Brito collapsed on the field. He was taken to a local hospital and was undergoing surgery soon after. The Phillies issued a statement saying same. I’ve heard nothing since. If you are so inclined, please remember this young man in your thoughts and prayers.
Daniel has been with the organization almost as long as I’ve been with Phuture Phillies. He was signed in July of 2014. He attended Instructs in 2014 and 2015 before coming stateside for good in 2016.

Our thoughts And prayers go out to Daniel Brito.
Victor Vargas comes thru again. He might be the real deal. Just hoping.
Vargas looked great in his last two starts, let’s hope he can keep it up and lift himself up the top 30 rankings.
Very sad to hear about Brito, I hope he can make a full recovery.
Prayers to Daniel and his family. I couldn’t imaging being that far from him during this. Keep them strong and watch over him as he heals. I know he is in good hands there in Rochester which was very fortunate that they were there instead of some of these other small minor league cities. And thank goodness something like this didn’t happen in his sleep and that he was around all these people ready to help. Mickey says Brito is one of the nicest human beings he’s ever met and they were all shaken to the Core. I met him in reading a couple years ago and he was one of the most polite young men I’ve ever met. Same thing with Gamboa and some of the other land kids from that team. Great group of kids. Heal up Daniel God’s watching you. God bless. Kind of puts things in perspective. It’s just baseball.
Great insight, Matt. Thank you for sharing that. I’ll keep praying for Daniel.
So sad turn of events for Daniel Brito.
Prayers for his recovery.
From the Rochester paper:
https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/2021/07/31/rochester-red-wings-game-postponed-medical-emergency-against-lehigh-valley-ironpigs/5444699001/
“Brito stayed on the ground for approximately 20 minutes and was administered oxygen by a paramedic before an ambulance arrived and Brito was transported to a local hospital. One source heard that the left side of Brito’s body was numb, though nothing conclusive about his condition was announced………..Brito had singled in the top of the first inning and was on first base with two outs when Mickey Moniak singled. Brito was not running on contact as he should have been with two outs and only reached second base, and Jones was seen yelling to him that he had made a baserunning error…….Speculation of course, but it may have been that Brito was already beginning to suffer some type of symptom. In the bottom of the first, Rochester’s Ali Castillo singled and went to third on a single by Jake Noll. The same Red Wings source said Castillo told him during the delay that Brito had shared with Castillo that he had a headache”
Prayers to Daniel. So scary. Hope all is well soon.
Fun highlights last night from Logan O’Ohoppe. First a seed to get a runner at second:
Here is his homer:
Hope he gets his promotion to Reading before too long.
Figured him and Ortiz would get there by August 1st.
Where is O’Hoppe going to play? Isn’t Marchan the catcher at Reading?
There is the DH and they can split the duties…not a big deal…they have already caught plenty this year….OHoppe 50 and Marchan about 35.
Dog days are still here so splitting would be the best for both…along with ABs thru the DH slot.
O’Hoppe needs to face AA pitching.
And who is to say Marchan stays at Reading….Phillies will recall him when JTR or Knapp go on the IL again.
Today’s game between the Iron Pigs and Red Wings has been postponed. Thoughts and prayers are with Daniel Brito, his family, friends, teammates, coaches, and the Phillies organization.
Amen to that – hope the young man recovers to lead a normal life most of all, Being able to play baseball safely again would the feather in cap for all involved
Praying for Brito. Brain aneurysm?
Outlaw Blue Claws plaid jerseys.
If the numbness in his left side report is accurate, probably a stroke. Scary stuff. Hopefully he makes a full recovery.
With the headache….yes….possibly a CVA….hopefully the surgery was successful and he can begin his recovery.
Pitcher Danny Farquhar had something similar a few years ago..
Considering his age and his symptoms, a leaking Berry aneurysm would be the most likely diagnosis and if it did not completely rupture (often fatal) and he did not have elevated intracranial pressure, emergency surgery would be the approach. Praying for a complete recovery for the young man.
My prayers for Daniel! Hoping for a complete recovery!!
Looks like both Jud Fabian and Kumar Rocker will be going back to school.
Is it official with Boras and Rocker?
Jeff Passan seems to think that Rocker won’t sign.
Well I do not think the Mets will loudly complain …especially if the MRI imaging was being withheld.
I wonder if the Mets medical staff has seen them yet?
Damn, I really hope he pulls through. He’s 23, he still has his whole life ahead of him.
What kind of thing needs 2 surgeries? OMG I hope for the best.
