Florida Instructs; September 18, 2018

Phillies Instructs continued Tuesday with the players beginning outside around 8:00 AM for individual work with the coaches.  They mix in meetings during the day and broke for one after this.  They came out again around 10:00 AM and began their stretching and conditioning exercises, followed by long toss.

There was a lot less outside work today.  They ran some pretty heavy catcher’s drills, ending with two coaches hitting balls to the plate for the catchers to catch an apply a tag.  They also ran fielding drills on the other fields. Then they scattered for batting practice.

I’ve got a little more video today, so I’m going to embed the links to save space here.

Carlos De La Cruz. Short because after a HR on the 2nd pitch they went to the next guy.

Juan Aparicio.

Ben Aklinski and Ben Aklinski2.

Alec Bohm.

Luis Rojas.

Coaches present include –

  • Pitching – Rafael Chavez, Carlos Arroyo, Matt Hockenberry, Brad Bergensen, Les Straker,
  • Infielders – Chris Truby, Waner Santana, Tyler Henson, Shaun Williams, Marty Malloy
  • Outfielders – Andy Abad, Christian Marrero, Homy Ovalles, Rob Ducey

In addition to the seventy Instructs invites, the AFL guys will be here in a few days.  There are also several gutys here who aren’t on the Instructs roster.  I’ve seen Aaron Loup (who left the Complex Monday to join the big club after being activated Tuesday), Nick Fanti, JoJo Romero, Malvin Matos, Cornelius Randolph, Jonathan Guzman, Adonis Medina, Jhordany Mezquita, Brayan Gonzalez, Cole Stobbe, Waylon Richardson, and Colton Eastman.   I also heard that Jake Scheiner will be here soon.

  1. Jim- Glad I got to hang out with you and Steve yesterday. Really appreciate everything you do here. The De La Cruz kid has an intriguing tool set.

  2. Jim – is that pitching machine throwing really hard from up close? Bohm seems like he’s more interested in where the ball is going vs putting a good swing on it.

    1. I realize it’s not ingame action, but how does Bohm look? I wasn’t impressed with the few swings he took on video. Seemed like his bat was a 40 ouncer.
