2018 Post Draft Discussion; July 7th

The 2018 Draft Tracker is current as of today (7/6/2018).

#33 Jake Kinney signed for a reported $185K.  That brings the reported bonus expenditure by the Phillies to $9,217,900.  That leaves them $83,525 (over $125K unspent).

There was some social media traffic that indicated that #15 Daniel Carpenter had signed, but it has been removed.  So assuming he has not signed, the Phillies were successful signing 32 of 38 draft picks, plus about five non-drafted free agents.

Those not signed include –

  • #15, Daniel Carpenter – he is commited to Central Arizona
  • #21, Jake Smith – he is committed to UNC-Wilmington
  • #28, Jonathan Jones – 2-sport HS player
  • #37, Ryan Rijo – juco, committed to Abilene Christian
  • #38, Stephen Jones – junior pitcher at Samford
  • #39, Matheu Nelson – declined, attending FSU

The signing period closed today, this will likely be the last draft discussion posted for 2018.

  1. Carpenter will be available again for next year’s draft. Will be interesting to see if Almaraz seeks to draft him in back to back years, like he did with Matt Kroon last year and again this year.

  2. It would have been nice to get Carpenter signed but I think overall they did a nice job finding interesting players while being somewhat limited by not having a full stable of picks. Bohm is obviously the key; hopefully they finally nail a 1st round pick.

  3. Another big name who will be available for next year’s draft.
