Box Score Recap – 8/17/2017

Here is the bare bones box score recap.

Lehigh Valley won, Jose Taveras threw six, one-hit, shutout innings. Herlis Rodriguez homered.

Reading was shut out on 4 singles, Damek Tomscha had two of them.

I watched Clearwater flounder to an extra inning loss and miss another opportunity to make up ground in the playoff race.

Lakewood was held to one hit.  They lost by a touchdown.

Williamsport rallied for five runs in the top of the ninth and secured a victory.  HRs by Nick Maton and Yahir Gurrola accounted for all five runs. .

And, I watched the GCL Phillies expand their lead with a drubbing of the Blue Jays.

Here’s the affiliate scoreboard from MiLB.

The floor is open for comments.

Rhys Hoskins is going to be an All Star

Here’s another article submitted by one our readers.  As always, neither the statistical opinions stated in a submitted article nor the interpretations of same are those of the staff here at Phuture Phillies.  But, in this case, I’m hoping V is right.  And would be hard pressed to argue from a contrarian point of view. Phillies Move into First Place, 8/16/2017

Wednesday afternoon, the GCL Phillies began a home-and-home series with the GCL Blue Jays.  The Phillies culminated a relentless drive to gain the top spot in the division with a victory over the Yankees West on Tuesday coupled with a Blue Jays loss.  Today the teams played for sole possession of first place. Box Score Recap – 8/16/2017

It is becoming apparent to me that the time I invest in preparing the recaps is far more than needed.  Very little of what I report actually trickles into the comments section.  In fact, it appears (to me at least), that the recap is just another venue for you to redundantly bitch about recent draft picks, blame players and scouts for injuries, condemn affiliates for promotions, and all manner of other negativity that is reminiscent of the forums over in another .com.

So, as my time is becoming increasingly more important to me, here is a bare bones recap.

Lehigh Valley and Reading lost in the 11th and 9th innings respectively.

Clearwater was outhit 12-4 yet was gifted a win on a couple of Mets’ errors.

Lakewood and Williamsport lost by identical 5-1 scores.

And, I watched Dalton Guthrie’s debut with the GCL Phillies and their movement into first place with a victory over the Blue Jays.

Here’s the affiliate scoreboard from MiLB.

Now you can more quickly turn your attention to the more important business of criticizing all aspects of the organization.  Which is your right here.  I’m not saying you shouldn’t do that.  It’s just that I don’t feel the need to spend hours producing a recap that only serves as a preface to a comment section, the recent nature of which I am no longer proud.  And look how early I can publish this.  Works for me.

Have at it.

Box Score Recap – 8/15/2017

Lehigh Valley was shut out by Alec Asher.

Reading needed 15 innings to pull out a win.

Clearwater clubbed 3 HRs but were betrayed by a rehabbing pitcher.

Lakewood’s Bailey Falter out-dueled his counterpart in a low-scoring game.

Williamsport is on their All Star break.

The GCL Phillies won and moved into a tie for first in their division. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 8/15/2017

Box Score Recap – 8/14/2017

Very little action yesterday.  The GCL Phillies swept a double header.  Clearwater hosted the St. Lucie Mets.  They were the perfect hosts as they gave the visitors a big 9-0 lead that included an 8-run fourth inning.   Continue reading Box Score Recap – 8/14/2017

Box Score Recap – 8/13/2017

The affiliates have been emulating the parent club lately.  Sunday brought another day of multiple losses and a single victory.  Wiilliamsport had the distinction of winning although Ramon Rosso’s debut as a starter was sketchy.  The rest of the organization lost. Open Discussion: Week of August 13th

The Phillies rebounded during their travels with a 3-3 week.  They came back from the west coast and swept a two-game series in Atlanta.  Then, they came home to face the Mets and dropped 3 games in a four-game set.  They have a 43-72 record and a .374 PCT.   Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of August 13th

Lehigh Valley Report

Decimated by both injury and roster roulette, Lehigh Valley has lost 9 of their last 11 games and are 28-33 since owning the best record in minor league baseball at 41-19.  A disappointing weekend at home against Charlotte, during which they lost 3 of 4 and are now 69-52 and 8 games back of division leading Scranton.  In the race for a wild card spot, the ‘Pigs have fallen 0.5 game behind Rochester.  After a much needed day off tomorrow, Lehigh Valley travels to Norfolk for three games then to CHarlotte for three over next weekend. The ‘Pigs current roster contains just 10 players who were on the opening day roster.

Probables: Tues: Eshelman, Wed: Lively, Thur: Taveras, Fri: Thompson, Sat: Leibrandt

News and Notes: On Sunday, Scott Kingery extended his current hitting streak to 12 games, during which time he is hitting .314. Kingery has hit in 28 of his last 29 games dating back a month.

JP Crawford has now hit in 9 straight games, during which he is hitting .389.  Since July 1st, Crawford has been on base 35 out of 40 games and has hit .400, while hitting 11HR, tied for the IL lead. Continue reading Lehigh Valley Report
