Phuture Phillies 2017 Reader Top 30 Poll for #5

Roman Quinn was your selection as the #4 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.  Quinn garnered 29% of the votes in the first poll settled without a majority.  Nick Williams finished a close second with 25%.  In what may be a sign of more close races, Sixto Sanchez (17%) topped Franklyn Kilome (12%) for third, and Rhys Hoskins (6%) nipped Dylan Cozens (4%) for fifth. Mickey Moniak was your selection as the #3 prospect in the Phillies’ organization.  Moniak garnered 235 of 328 votes (72%).  He was the Phillies #1 pick in the 2016 Rule 4 Draft. Roman Quinn finished second with 29 votes (9%).

Phuture Phillies 2017 Reader Top 30 Poll for #2

J.P. Crawford was the selection as the top prospect in the Phillies’ organization.  Crawford garnered 81% of 343 votes.

Welcome to the 2017 Reader Top 30!

Well, here we go.  This should take us through the end of January.  A short two weeks later, pitchers and catchers report on February 13th and have their first work out on the 14th, signalling the start of spring training.  The first full squad work out is on the 17th.  Just 63 days to go. 2017 Phuture Phillies Reader Top 30 Poll

Time to get ready for the 2017 Reader Top 30 Prospect Poll.  I will start this week and try to post a poll each weekday.  We will continue to follow baseball’s standards for prospect lists which states –

“To be eligible for a list, a player must have rookie eligibility. To qualify for rookie status, a player must not have exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues, or accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the 25-player limit period, excluding time on the disabled list or in military service.”

“The rankings follow the guidelines laid out by the new Collective Bargaining Agreement in terms of who falls under the international pool money rules: Players who are at least 23 years old and played in leagues deemed to be professional (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Cuba) are not eligible.” Continue reading 2017 Phuture Phillies Reader Top 30 Poll

Open Discussion: Week of December 12th

Here’s the open discussion for Phillies’ talk and other topics.

Baseball’s Winter Meetings came and went with just one transaction by the Phillies.  They signed FA reliever, RHP Joaquin Benoit.  As a result, Michael Mariot was designated for assignment.

The meetings ended Friday with the Rule 5 draft.  The Phillies didn’t participate, but saw LHP Hoby Milner selected by the Cleveland Indians during the major league selection process.  During the AAA portion of the draft, the Phillies selected SS Jorge Flores from the Dunedin Blue Jays (FSL) and lost Clearwater’s RHP Jairo Munoz (FSL) to the Tampa Rays. Phillies 2016 Rule 5 Results

The Rule 5 Draft was completed this morning, and none of the players fans worried over were selected.

During the major league portion of the draft, 16 teams selected 18 minor league players. The Phillies did not go unscathed during the process as LHP Hoby Milner was selected by the Cleveland Indians with the 15th selection in the first round. Continue reading Phillies 2016 Rule 5 Results
