The Phillies went 2-3 last week. They split with the White Sox and dropped 2 of 3 against the Mets. Their record stands at 60-70 (16-22 since the break).
The Phillies traded catcher Carlos Ruiz to the Dodgers. That means the Dodgers have more 2008 world champions on their roster than the Phillies.

Clearwater kept their slim, playoff hopes alive with a come back victory fueled by Jiandido Tromp.
Lakewood maintained their three game lead behind solid pitching by Jose Taveras and clutch hitting by Damek Tomscha.

Reading lost again. They have lost six of their last seven games. Good thing they’ve already clinched a playoff berth.
Clearwater won behind Will Morris and Zach Coppola and remain alive in their division race, barely.
Lakewood lost but still has a 3.0 game lead. Their magic number is six.
Williamsport won but is 5.0 games back in the wild card race. Their elimination number is four.

The two hottest teams in the organization won again behind strong pitching performances by Seranthony Dominguez for Lakewood and Mauricio Llovera for the GCL Phillies. JoJo Romero pitched a strong six innings for Williamsport but the Crosscutters were unable to take advantage. The most dramatic offensive highlight was Josh Stephen’s two-run home run that provided the late inning runs the Phillies needed to extend their winning streak to seven games. The GCL Phillies, one of the youngest teams in the GCL, opened up a 2.0 game lead over the Blue Jays with their second victory in as many days over the team with whom they are contesting the division. They received stellar pitching from Kyle Young, Jordan Kurokawa, Oskerlly Sanchez, and Tyler Frohwirth coupled with timely hitting from Mickey Moniak, Lenin Rodriguez, Jose Antequera, Nerluis Martinez, and Danny Zardon. Total team effort.
Phil Klein pitched Lehigh Valley to an imporatnt win. John Richy pitched Reading to a much needed win. As did Elniery Garcia for Clearwater.
Alberto Tirado pitched the rampaging BlueClaws to another win as they remain atop their division.

Sixto Sanchez shone as the GCL Phillies took over sole control of first place. Cole Stobbe and Rudolfo Duran homered in support.
Tyler Gilbert, Blake Quinn, and Scott Harris pitched a combined shutout for Lakewood. The BlueClaws hammered out 16 hits and 13 runs.
Featherston, Ruf, Lino, Quinn, and Canelo all homered in losing causes.

The big story today isn’t an individual performance, but rather a team performance. The Lakewood BlueClaws lead their division by 3.0 games in the second half, and with last night’s win have a winning record for the first time this season. As recently as seven weeks ago, they were still 14 games below .500 for the season. Jan Hernandez hit 2 home runs in Tuesday’s game.
Also, the GCL Phillies are tied with the Blue Jays for first place and begin a home-and-home series with them today. They finish the season against the Jays with another home-and-home next week.
Individually, Ben Lively pitched kinda good last night for Lehigh Valley. Brandon Leibrandt and three relievers pitched a shutout for Clearwater. And, Bailey Faltr laid the foundation for Williamsport. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 8/23/2016
Grant Dyer and Jose Taveras pitched well for Lakewood as they swept a double header. Cornelius Randolph and Jose Pujols had 4 hits each on the night, and Pujols hit his 24th home run. Randolph had four RBI, Pujols two.
Williamsport got excellent starts from Ranger Suarez and Felix Paulino, but dropped a double header.
Will Stewart turned in today’s GCL Phillies solid start. Cole Stobbe and Malvin Matos hit home runs.
